One Piece is not actually #1 in overall sales?

Dragonball is untouchable, sales or not. The thing about One Piece catching up to Dragonball in Japan sales alone is that Japan has a pretty large population and THE SAME people keep buying One Piece in japan month after month.

Theres a reason why Dragonball has survived for 20+ years and One Piece only does well in it's home country.

One Piece bad? wtf are you smoking...

The thread is relevant to overall sales, not single month sales, and certainly not single month sales in another country. The information in your post had nothing(hey, look, red!) to do with this thread.
If you are gonna say something, get your facts straight ;)

This is mostly due to people complaining about the length of the story, unusual art style of the anime/manga, or just because it's about pirates and not ninjas or shinigamis or other superpowered beings.

That's what I initially thought, before I watched it, that OP was some sort of generic shonen that had a generic storyline, and had crappy art. Then I actually overcame my ignorance and tried it.

TBH, props to OP for having such a well planned-out and stable storyline for its epic length(if Oda says that 600 chapters is the halfway point, surely he has planned quite far ahead).

Omg what are you 12, I don't care weather it said overall sales or monthly or weekly sales what I said was monthly and I don't give a darn thing. I got ALL my facts straight if I didn't I wouldn't have said it was in june. I was giving them the monthly sales because I Wanted to. So read it again and Get your facts straight.

P.s

This is just a forum you don't need to blow this out of context.

DBZ (Anime) was a great success in the US (I'm not going to speak on behalf of the world, because I don't know) because there was nothing like it here. Almost all of the cartoons in the US were one shot with no character progression and typically had a generic formula of: Bad Guy A does something bad, Hero beats Bad Guy A., but he gets away. Next week: Bad Guy B does something bad, Hero beats Bad Guy B, but he got away somehow. DBZ launched with a relatively good adaptation for the average American 7+ boy and would have been even more gigantic had it hit the major networks. DBZ's downfall is how much that Akira was forced drag it on.

I loved DB and liked DBZ. However, in my opinion, One Piece is much better.

One Piece is a great series, both the anime and the manga. Oda is very gifted and even after all of this time manages to make an incredibly deep series, that isn't hard to follow, has great character progression and development and a fantastic balance of action and comedy. The success of the Anime was doomed from the beginning, however.

Everyone knows about the 4kids fiasco and just typing about the water guns, lolipops, and how the people who voiced that show sleep at night makes me want to puke. I hated One Piece because all that I ever saw was the 4kids dub and immediately assumed it was some disgustingly kiddy show that makes Digimon look like Schindler's List. I never had a single bit of interest until I read the manga.

The Funimation dubs are better than that, but still targets young kids when it truly is a lot more Adult than its light-hearted nature leads on and does not translate well without it.

you prolly have to erase that link you made there. you might get in trouble.

@topic.
I thought there's currently an ongoing manga that actually tops one piece /facepalm
but yeah DBZ is #1 overall no doubt about that
but let's see maybe One piece will actually become #1 we'll never know right?

Dragonball's world wide sales is around 300 mil. One Pieces sales in Japan alone are at about 250 mil. One Piece sold just short of 38 mil copies in 2011 alone. It's simply a matter of time. Global manga sales have been steadily declining since 2007. Its highly likely sales will at least stabilize with a shift towards digital distribution. North American manga sales are something like 100-120 mil dollars U.S, Japanese sales are around 5bil dollars US.

Oricon sales top 10 for 2011 the #s refer to copies sold not money. The top 50 can be found on ANN for anyone interested. These numbers are just for sales in Japan.
1 One Piece Eiichiro Oda 37,996,373 Shueisha
2 Naruto Masashi Kishimoto 6,874,840 Shueisha

4 Fairy Tail Hiro Mashima 4,701,596 Kodansha
5 Toriko Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro 4,665,634 Shueisha

one piece is really a good manga, and as we all know, the plot of the manga is told the story about the straw hats, two years later. it is more funny and interesting. so many manag fans will buy the manga. and one piece manga, now the latest released chapter is one piece 649t. it told the jimeb, a fish man will join them, but not this time. and the next chapter, one piece 650they will go on their new journey.
