Seems like every American Animated film comes out in 2D and 3D.
When will Japan produce a 3D Anime feature film?
I could imagine it would be amazing!!!

How ironic could it get? 3D in a 2D show?

Some anime are already using 3D. For example, most cars and buildings are in 3D. And Final Fantasy Advent Children is 3D, but I'm not sure you can consider that an anime, since the art is way different. Personally, I prefer 2D.

Hummm 3D anime? I don't know what specifically do you mean by "3-D" , however, anime after...humm.... probably 2007-2008 have following 3 dimension approach in several of their scenes. Look at Clannad / Clannad After Story for example..... or the more recently Angel Beats. Don't tell me the part when Girls Dead Monsters sing on stage does not look like 3-D.......

I'm divided on this. On one hand, as a fan who would like to see anime become more popular, I would enjoy seeing some 3D Anime. On the other hand, I hope that it is done well so that the visuals themselves do not suffer (see Avatar: The Last Airbender) or have more of a focus than the plot (see Cameron's Avatar).

Advent Children is an anime ;)
Myanimelist and Animenewsnetwork consider it anime too.
FF: Spirits Within is also an anime.

I'm talking about like Avatar type 3D.
You could do like layers of characters and back ground
and foreground stuff in 3D.

Yeah right, ironic.
But you know, Walt Disney always had 3D in mind,
his movies were made with stacks of glass, each one with an
animation cell on it- so you could scroll a background by pushing
the background glass to the side, or move a character from background
to foreground by moving the characters glass to the top of the stack.

They'd blatantly break the barrier between the 2D anime and 3D real life?! How are the Otaku supposed to differentiate between anime and their lives?

That kinda thing would be cool, however, dealing with 3D is very hard. In Avatar, a lot of time and money was invested to make it, and if a bunch of anime had 3D main characters, the producers probably won't have enough time and money to spare, and it'll turn out to be crappy. FF Avent Children turned out to have awesome graphics, but that doesn't mean everybody could do the same. So if they ever will do such a thing, it's probably gonna be once-a-decade kinda work based on a really popular story or game or something.

I don't know how hard it is.
But, every American animation release is in 3D-
Shrek, Megamind, Dispicable Me.....
I mean like every single one!
