Shugo Chara! many episodes starting aroun #40 are streaming different versions than online. They show the beginning slate and the subtitles are totally not in sync. I want to continue to be a premium member but this (out of sync) is also happening on many episodes of other series like Skip Beat etc etc. I have emailed support a few times with no response.

i have linked my account in the roku.

My suggestion would be to simply find a way to stream the same SD versions that you have available online.
That would save you alot of hassle. Linking your account should just then give the access to the premium
members as usual.

I have some questions.
By using the crunchyroll app on the roku, will the videos be in 720p for the newer shows? Also what is the benefit of linking a premium account to your roku?

All the new Winter 2011 shows you put up besides Rio Rainbow Gate are only 1 dot of quality on the Roku are there reasons for this? plus some episodes are like 12 hours late getting to the Roku.

FYI, according to data I found on the Roku forum, the dots indicate the following data rates:

1 dot is = 0.5Mbps
2 dots = 1Mbps
3 dots = 1.6Mbps
4 dots = 2.2Mbps

While I do not know for certain what the typical bitrate is on CR videos, what I have found indicates 1Mbps is closer to the bitrate for Crunchyroll's 480p video.

Checking a couple of 720p anime OP/ED pieces I downloaded from YouTube, I see data rates of 1.5 - 2.0Mbps, so I suspect even with Rio, we Roku users are not getting 720p video.

I hope this is just a temporary measure, while they get all the videos encoded for the Roku, but it does concern me that simulcasts that offer 720p do not appear to offer that quality on the Roku.

We currently provide 360P and 480P quality videos through our Roku channel. The reason why only 1 dot would appear for new releases is because the 360P version takes less time to encode than the 480P version so it is the first one that is available. If you wait a few more hours, the 2nd dot should appear.

We are planning to start encoding 720P versions for Roku. We haven't yet because encoding 720P videos takes longer than 360P and 480P combined, especially when our systems are already overloaded with encoding thousands of other videos.

while roku sounds awesome.. By reading this forums it feels like its not 100% there yet so i might hold on buying roku maybe in a few months.

Some of the new Winter 2011 shows and intros aren't showing subtitles on the Roku. I'll have to go through to list the specific ones but I know Gosick was one of them that keeps coming up without subtitles.

I see one common factor in the Introduction videos that don't have subtitles so I'll test my theory out and then have someone fix the problem if I'm right. Either way, we'll have those videos fixed.

Oh I was wondering why some of the things on the site are not available on my roku player yet, such as code geass and episode 1 of beelzebub will they be avaialable on my roku player eventually I hope so

Hello Crunchyroll admins,

Have you changed the Roku encoding this week compared to past episodes?

I am having issues playing the most newest weekly available episodes. They appear really choppy/jerky as if they were dropping every other frame. It's most noticable anytime the screen pans from one location to next.

Previously weeks episodes play fine, and can still be played fine. It's just the most recent (newest week) Roku batch.

Here are some specific examples of playback being choppy/jerky/dropping frames:

Bleach 304, Fairy Tail 61, Naruto Shippuden 193
Beezlebub 1, Rio: Rainbow Gate 1


The exception to this week is the first episode of Gosick, which plays fine. I've not had a chance to check out the other lastest simulcasts yet.

Previous weeks series play fine and still continue to play without issue, so it looks to me like a change in encoding in the most recent batch of videos.


Here is my setup:
Roku XD with lastest firmware updated
Connection is through ethernet (not wireless), 20 Mbps cable modem
TV output is via Composite, so it's running standard definition only
I've rebooted the unit to make certain it wasn't an unit/application issue
I have no issue with previous encodings on Crunchyroll on the Roku, and other services like Netflix and Amazon VOD play without issue.

Please check into this, as it makes the video very hard to watch.





To other Crunchyroll Roku users, are you all seeing the same issue as I am with the latest videos?

I get this problem too but for me to fix this I start the video, then hit the UP button to exit the video,then hit resume playing and it fixes it for me,hopefully they fix this and it works for you in the mean time.
