Also, it should be added that the fact mine's a US model shouldn't actually matter in this case- the fact is that the Crunchyroll channel has, for whatever reason, been made unavailable for this region- therefore I imagine even if I had a UK model, it wouldn't show up either. If the channel's actually meant to be available here, it should show up and work regardless of where my Roku originated from. I think/ hope.

Hopefully if nothing else, when Roku launches in the UK, more people will notice this and they'll make it available here then? If they want it available to the UK market, they'll need to.

Indeed the fact that it is the US model should make no difference.

I've noticed CR is slow to respond on some issues on weekends (no doubt because most of the staff is off). You may want to PM BasouKazuma if you don't get a response by tomorrow, but it would probably be Monday before he could get in touch with the proper person(s) to start getting the problem resolved.

Personally, I think they should give you an additional month free of premium service (at least) for calling this to their attention before the Roku starts hitting the UK and Ireland markets en masse.

Yeah, I'll definitely PM him at some stage soonish if I don't hear back, it certainly wouldn't hurt. I'm glad I won't have to buy a UK-model Roku once they launch here (as a Roku support member suggested- I wonder why *sarcasm*).

I just really hope Crunchyroll actually take action on this and don't just ignore me and leave it unavailable. Like I said, they told me it was available, so I can only assume that they think it is and that nobody's ever noticed or checked. Hopefully they can get this resolved soon so my Roku can stop being a very expensive paperweight.

Has anyone else had recent stream interruption problems on the roku when watching anime such as bleach? I just got my roku and the other apps seem to stream fine. I have changed the access from wireless to wired, rebooted it, and even checked to make sure it streamed ok on my MacBook Air (which it did). It's somewhat aggravating that the thing won't stream more than 2-3 minutes at a time since crunchy is the sole reason I got the roku (just couldn't take the rigged ps3 browser way of streaming anymore).

Thanks
Mike

Actually I'm in the same boat as you.

No problems with Netflix and Hulu, but CR stalls out and reloads every few minutes if I'm lucky, or every 30 seconds if I'm not lucky. This happens for me on anime and drama, old and current simulcasts. If I switch to watching on my iPad, I have no problems.

One thing I have noticed is it seems to occur mostly between 8pm-midnight EST. During this time period its nearly impossible to watch, took my 2 hours to watch a 60 minute kdrama episode the other day (I'm so stubborn I refused to stop). But if I watch during the day, there are no problems.

I work 8-5, so 8-midnight is when I need it to work. I'm also sad because CR was the biggest driving factor for me to get my Roku as well. Suppose I should note that I also just got my Roku in early December and its the LT, this problem only started up about two weeks ago (that I noticed).

Well, I've still not heard back from Crunchyroll over the Roku UK matter. =S I know they're probably catching up with the weekend and all, but still.

Hoping I'll heard something back soon, I really hope they can solve this problem fairly quickly. =/

Also having loading issues on the roku. If I start up an episode and let it sit there till the screensaver on the roku kicks in, it works most of the time uninterrupted. Lately though it goes back to the loading screen by the last couple mins of the episode, and i have to wait for it to load for a while again.

Connection is fine, and its only with crunchyroll that this is happening on.

I too am having problems with CR on my new (-ish) Roku. I can watch the other Roku channels fine, but I can't get anywhere with Crunchyroll. An episode takes a very long time to load and then it stall in under a minute... another huge delay... repeat. I tried at least four different anime series to make sure it wasn't just the Naruto ep that I was trying. It streams fine to my living room set (connected to my mac), but its useless in the other room with the Roku.

I'm new. This is my first month. So far, I'm pretty disappointed.

edited to added: I'm actually glad that I'm not the only one having problems. I was trying to troubleshoot my end to eliminate causes - but now I'm certain that its CR's issue.

I'm also having problems watching Crunchyroll on my Roku. The issue has slowly been getting worse over the past couple of weeks. Same thing as others are reporting, long load times on episodes, stalling after 1-3 minutes to reload, takes a long time to reload again, repeating this through a whole episode. This is happening regardless of what anime series I am watching, but does seem to be way worse on the new simulcasts. This is definitely got to be an issue with Crunchyroll and Roku. My internet connection is fine, no issues with Netflix or Hulu on my Roku. I love watching Crunchyroll on my Roku, but the constant stall and reload is getting pretty annoying. I hope this is something that can be fixed soon.

Haven't seen anyone mention this yet, but it seems that many of this week's episodes on VIA are streaming without any subtitles. Just checked some of the new series, and the first episodes of Another, Brave 10, Knight in the Area, as well as the new Chihayafuru are all missing subtitles. The first Moretsu Pirates and the latest Hunter x Hunter are working fine though. Thanks!

I'm experiencing the slow load issue with the frequent rebuffering as well.

To me it seems like it started happening as soon as Crunchyroll started offering the 1080p streaming.

Does anyone know how the Roku chooses the resolution to default streaming at? Does it pick it up from the user preferences from streaming through the site, or maybe it just tries to go for the highest resolution and the Roku can't handle it.

To test this theory out I watched Air Master (480p max) and the episode played just fine. Immediately after I tried Nisemonogatari and it started buffering about 10 seconds into the OP.

I can watch the new shows in 1080p on my computer with no issues so it certainly isn't my internet connection.

Currently the highest resolution CR encodes for the Roku is 480p.

The number of dots that appear when a Roku program is starting relate to the the bit rate that is used, however, not the resolution. Apparently the dots correspond to bitrates of 0.5 Mbps, 1.0 Mbps, 1.6 Mbps, & 2.2 Mbps.

I don't think CR's Roku app obeys the website setting for highest resolution, but even if it did, your only choice currently would be to step down to SD (360p) from 480p.

You state you can watch 1080p on your computer, and are therefore certain that it isn't your internet connection, but can you be certain it isn't your network connection? If you have your Roku connected via WiFi (and if you have a Roku 2, you don't have another choice for anything but the top model), it may not have as stable a connection as your computer. Do you have any issues watching other streaming content on your Roku?

I'm also experiencing Roku (II XD) buffering issues. I began to notice this problem in the last week while watching episodes of Beelzebub beyond number 30. Each episode loads slowly and rebuffers an excess of 3 times per viewing. Other shows have also begun loading slower than usual, but do not rebuffer as frequently as Beelzebub.

Streaming netflix, Hulu, and Amazon video all work fine.

The network idea is a good theory so I figured I would give it a shot. I've been running my Roku on wiki, but I do a have XS so I figured I'd hook it up and see what wired performance is like. So I pulled out the trusty lap timer and this is a log of 13 minutes of time watching Inu x Boku ep 2 (wall clock time)

0:00 - 1:10 - buffering after play button is hit
1:10 - 3:03 - actually watching some anime
3:03 - 4:01 - buffering again
4:01 - 4:42 - play time
4:42 - 7:33 - buffering this was a long one
7:33 - 12:02 - sweet, more than 4 minutes of anime
12:02 - 13:11- buffering, I get tired of pushing buttons on my stop watch

I then flip back over to the computer and watch 13 minutes of the same show on 1080p without a single stutter.

Note: Slightly snarky but I have to find some humor in timing buffering on a Friday night.

I tried playing the first 7 minutes of the same episode on my Roku XD|S. Nary a single hiccup.

This was starting at 12:19 AM CST on Saturday, on my 5Mbps DSL line.

It appears your post was about 3 hours before mine, so unless that was enough to impact the volume of traffic (possible if you are on the west coast), it would appear the problem is somewhere between CR and your local connection. Given that watching via a web browser is unaffected, I would say CR's CDN in the area is likely at the root of the problem.

A can confirm this.

We are now on the second week of missing subtitles for the weekly series!

While I'm not complaining, I would just like to add that the "web videos" app is the reason that after a year of faithfully watching CR I still haven't upgraded to a premium membership. If I can't log in via my tv for HD and exclusive content what is the point?

Also every month or so whoever is in charge of the videos screws up and the subs are missing on the via app. I think you guys need to bite the bullet and go ahead and invest the time and money on making your own custom app... then you will have complete control.
