Just finished watching an episode of Brave 10. The playback was absolutely flawless. Once they get 720p going (I noticed the quality difference after realizing it's 480p) it will be the best Crunchyroll experience.

So good job! Everything's becoming the way it should be. I'm a happy customer. :)

Though the CR app has the best looking app next to netflix. The quality of the content is amazing looking pretty much near DVD quality

No doubt that it's DVD quality. But if you find an HD anime that's on Netflix, and then watch an anime on Crunchyroll; you really notice the difference.

But still, I'm just glad they can match Netflix's loading speed. That was definitely the biggest problem.

Thanks for the switch to the new service provider for Roku. I was able to watch three full episodes tonight, without a single pause for buffering. Hopefully these problems are an indication that Crunchyroll is becoming even more popular.

Woo! I just checked, and the Crunchyroll channel is now up in the UK! Now we just need HD on it and it'll be perfect!

I thought Roku was using our new service provider but it actually isn't yet. We were going to switch yesterday but I now see that this switch was delayed so that's why performance seems the same for people. I'll update this thread when I confirm that the switch has been made.

Update: The switch has been made. So we are now officially using the new service provider for our Roku streams but I wouldn't be surprised if things are a little bumpy at first while videos are being cached.

So me ask what can we expect of this? Meaning what are some of the benefits/differences we'll see with the use of this new service provider for Roku streams? Just curious...

It would mostly be for those who were experiencing problems with the prior CDN network: buffering, stalling, drop-outs mid-episode. A higher quality CDN does more analysis of the dropped packet resend requests that they get and are more aggressive about finding solutions to problematic paths ~ a lower quality one is more complaints driven. A complaints driven CDN is even worse for the Roku, since a smaller share of members use it, and often they are away from their computer and access to the forums when they do. But you pay extra for that extra quality of service, so it likely to be a benefit of the growth in subscribers at Crunchyroll that Crunchy can afford to switch to a higher quality CDN.

Its very much an issue of what the internet path is like between you and the location that the CDN picks as the source for your stream ~ one person can have flawless performance out of the CDN, because there are no problems in the path, while someone a block over on a different ISP is tearing their hair out.

I used to be plagued by those for most dramas, but since last summer they've been much less common. But every once in a while I'd still experience something, like dropping in mid-episode. If you can restart the episode right away and it works fine, that was probably the CDN's fault. Fingers crossed that they've gone away for good.

Hmm, this is odd.

Over the weekend I must have watched around 14-15 episodes of various shows on my Roku with very little in the way of buffering/ loading lag and interruptions.

Just tried to rewatch today's Gintama on it, and it's buffering hell. Stopping every minute or two, loading for around three minutes or more before stopping to buffer a couple of minutes later again. I thought my Internet was just acting up, but the episode seems to run okay on my laptop now (despite a shaky stop-start beginning).

Are there any problems with the Roku servers at the moment, or is my ISP just acting up?

Apologies for the late reply!

I see that you ended up coming back to the episode today by iPhone. Is it still having playback issues on the Roku?
Also, were the buffering issues only with Gintama or was it all shows?

Actually I watched the episode on my iPhone unrelated to yesterday's Roku issues (I wanted to run my iPhone battery down as much as possible before charging it and felt that rewatching Gintama would be the best way to do so ). I will say that I was pleasantly surprised to see that the episode ran smoothly and maintained high quality, even over 3G (since, you know, that drains the battery more than Wi-Fi!)

I haven't actually tried Roku again since last night, and I only tried watching Gintama then. Sorry if that's not very helpful! In fact, I'll try and load up a few things in a minute and see how they run now.

Okay, just tried the latest episodes of Gintama, Naruto, Digimon and SKET Dance; Gintama was initially just as problematic as yesterday.

SKET Dance took a while to load and stopped to buffer once, but seemed to run more smoothly overall. Naruto and Digimon had no problems. I tried going back to Gintama after that and it seemed fine.

Looks like it was more likely my ISP acting up a little, still might want to keep an eye out just in case though!

Just watched Digimon a little more than an hour after simulcast time. I know things usually have a slight delay on Roku, but it was up. The only issue seemed to be that it was only available in 360P at the time. I watched Naruto immediately afterwards and it was fine in 480P.

After watching both Naruto episodes, I went back to check Digimon and it's available in 480P as well now. Is it common for episodes that have only very recently been released to initially be in low quality on Roku for a couple of hours before 'settling', or was this just an unusual, one-off error?

Since I can't watch anything until I get back from work anyway, I could just watch Naruto first in future if quality will be an issue with Digimon due to being too recent.
