I thought we fixed the problem with the Roku videos. Right now our latest Roku and Android encodes are messed up but we're working to fix these issues asap.

Currently, most videos have the subtitles right at the bottom of the screen on my TV. Some of them, like the ones in the "Wandering Son" preview, are unreadable. Others are readable, but not easily, as they are kind of half on and half off the screen. I don't know if this is a problem for other Roku users or just me, but I don't see any way to adjust the picture, other than the standard adjustments that my TV can do, all of which make it worse. (The current setting is the best of the bunch.)

Also, frequently the video gets choppy in the middle, and sometimes the sound gets off from the video. It usually helps to go out and back in, but not always. The "Instant Replay" frequently doesn't work right either. Sometimes it is very slow to respond to the remote or doesn't respond to anything other than hitting the "Home" key.

All in all, I love having Crunchyroll on Roku, though!

Hello Crunchyroll admins,

Have you changed the Roku encoding this week compared to past episodes?

I am having issues playing the most newest weekly available episodes. They appear really choppy/jerky as if they were dropping every other frame. It's most noticable anytime the screen pans from one location to next.
...

To other Crunchyroll Roku users, are you all seeing the same issue as I am with the latest videos?

I get this problem too but for me to fix this I start the video, then hit the UP button to exit the video, then hit resume playing and it fixes it for me,hopefully they fix this and it works for you in the mean time.

Thanks Bodyslam911 -- your workaround does indeed work for me. After doing the UP/resume, it plays smoothly like normal. This is a great temporary fix... also if we FF or Rewind during these latest encoded videos, the choppy video returns, but your fix of UP/resume clears that as well. Nice find!

BasouKazuma -- glad to hear that Crunchyroll will fix that batch of videos. Everything else has been great for CR on Roku. Thank you for your quick reply.

Zensunni -- just thought I'd throw this out there, but have you double-checked the Display settings on the Roku? Sounds like you could be trying to display a 16:9 picture on a 4:3 (square style) TV. If you're currently set to 16:9, try setting it to 4:3 display and see if that makes the screen look normal, subtitles and all. If you're watching on a HDTV, then disregard, but talking about subtitles being cutoff the bottom makes me think the 4:3 settings might help on a normal SD TV.

Ok, I just checked "Wandering Son" preview and I had no issues with the subtitles. It's tiny on the video, but it's there and readable.

To change the settings in on the 1) main Roku page (home), 2) Settings, 3) Display type then 4) set it to 4:3. See if that makes it better.

Episode 6 and 11 of Durarara! won't work. at 11 minute something and 13:32 respectively, they get cut off and returned to the episode screen. When you resume, the loading bar appears for a second before you're brought back to the episode select screen.

I've had that happen to me with other shows. I fixed it by leaving the crunchyroll channel altogether and then reopening it from scratch. Seems to work for me

Thanks! That fixed it. Strange, since I have a wide-screen Standard Def TV, and other things work correctly when I set them to play in 16:9 anamorphic... Oh well, it looks great with the 4:3 setting and I can read all the subs!

The subtitles are at the very bottom but I was able to see them just fine so your TV must be cutting off the bottom of the screen. Make sure you don't have the screen set to zoom in or anything weird.

I looked at that and even tried changing the screen format on my roku player and they are still unreadable, but i thank you for checking it out
anyway. guess i'll just have to skip watching code geass but hell there's enough on here to keep me occupied

I am hoping that CR will make a PS3 app soon. It that's not going to happen, I might be getting a Roku. Is the quality similar to Boxee? I sure like the prices better. I'll be running HDMI out and Ethernet In.

Still looking for a reply regarding what if any, CR's future device considerations might be.

----------------------------------------------
Sorry, forgot to add the quotes. There have been others asking similar questions as well, but I have not hunted down their specific question to quote and include in the question.

Just looking for an idea of whether you are considering or looking to expand to further devices. If not now, perhaps within a year or so? That type of guidance would be appreciated. I am considering a Roku, but it isn't really my first choice.

Any chance that Crunchyroll is going to offer streaming on the WD Live player?

Hey - I love that your making this available. Thanks so much. Could you share with us any upcoming or future plans of streaming via other devices. I'd rather not double up, etc... Specifically wondering about the Western Digital Live or Live Plus units and Tivo. Thanks again.

My apologies, I'm clearly tired. Now, HERE are the quotes.

There currently are no real plans to support Western Digital Live, Live Plus or Tivo but that doesn't mean we won't. This just means that we haven't thoroughly explored the option of supporting these.
