Yes, I deleted Crunchyroll, unplugged the Roku, let it sit for a while, then plugged it back in, added Crunchyroll again to my channel list, and tried to watch a video. Same deal. Starts to load, then bounces back to the home page. BTW I live in St. Louis, MO.

I doubt it is a regional issue then, as you are closer to me (288 miles north) than you are to largeshadow (785 miles).

That said, given the large number of servers Crunchyroll's current content delivery network (Akamai) has, I would expect you to be connecting to a different server than either of us. That would mean if the problem was with CR's CDN, it would be with at least two separate servers and I expect that a problem with only one would generate a substantial number of complaints.

Do you known if by chance the DNS in your router is set to a DNS like OpenDNS or Google Public DNS, by any chance? While those can have certain benefits, they can sometimes be problematic for content delivery networks. You may want to try at least temporarily changing that and see if it has any effect.

If it is a CDN issue, I would expect you would also being seeing issues with streaming on a computer. Have you noticed or tested that?


FYI, both Netflix and Hulu use more than one CDN, which allows their system to be more robust than CR in dealing with any issues. They are also much larger companies than CR, so they can better afford to do that.

What is you location?

I checked my Roku again, and the CR app on it is still working perfectly, which rules out a problem with Crunchyroll itself. Yellowsubmarine also re-installed the app, which should rule out the issue being there, and as other services work fine, that would rule out a problem with the hardware. That only leaves the connection between the Roku and the local CDN server.

Oddly enough, I had the same problem you are experiencing with the CR app with the Funimation app this morning, although I did eventually get in after several attempts.

I'm in Lawrence Kansas.I'm also experiencing this problem with the funimation app as well. I've tried reinstalling both but that didn't help any.

I've had a issue very similar in the past with my Roku but this was fixed within a few days and things are working great here. Also this has nothing to do with location or anything its the app being buggy and crashing when playing. I have the same thing happen on the Funimation when they first released it, though Funi is a bit slower to fix these things. Though I did email there roku Support team and they got back to me

I am also having a problem with videos loading on CR and FUNimation. CR loads the video thumbnails, but when you attempt to play any episode, it exits to the main Roku menu. FUNimation loads the thumbnails, then immediately exits to the Roku menu. I also deleted both channels, unplugged the Roku, then plugged it back in, added the channels back again and the same issue occurred. I called Roku and we went though many steps with no results. They said they would keep the ticket open, but my issue still hasn't been resolved. This has being going on for at least two days. I am in Florida and if I understood the Bright House tech, he said that the DNS is random and you can't assign numbers which the Roku guy said to do.(I am not exactly tech savy, so I am not sure what this means.) I hope whatever the issue is gets fixed soon. Any help would be appreciated .

Same problem here for 2 days already

I live in Alabama and my ISP is Knology. Other than CR, everything else (Netflix, Pandora, 5ik.tv) works well.

The Roku itself has no means of setting the DNS, but most any router does. Any device that is set to automatically determine the DNS would use the one set in the router.

So there was a recent update to the Roku channel.

If you're having issues on Roku, can you please do the following.

Go to the devices page and unlink your Roku - https://www.crunchyroll.com/acct/?action=devices
Follow these steps to relink your Roku - http://www.crunchyroll.com/help?topic=roku#2

This should resolve any problems with playback.
