The Roku, WD, and VIA (Vizio) apps all share the same episode encodes. The WD and VIA apps are both third party (Flingo) apps, however. I suspect LG (another third party app) could be added here also.

I am about to buy a Roku 3, but before I do, I want to make sure I can marathon episodes without needing to do anything.

With the PS3, say I put on episode 4 of Polar Bear Cafe. It will automatically go to episode 5,6,7...until I turn it off.

The iOS app, after episode 4, I need to click to start episode 5.

How does the Roku app work?

I use the original Roku, but I imagine it will work the same way for the new one. It does not automatically play the next episode. Action you need to take is minimal though (and it isn't entirely obvious that the "click < or > to see more shows" message at the top right will move you through episodes of the current show, but that's exactly what it does). When an episode finishes you'll automatically get bounced to the menu page of the episode you just watched. Just hit the > button on your remote and you'll be at the menu page for the next episode. Now click to play.

Basically, two clicks on the remote in order to play the next episode.

There might be some new changes with Roku 3 coming out so who knows. The hardware is much faster then what was out there previously so I can see Crunchyroll doing some nice stuff in the near future. I'm sure the CR roku team is working hard at it as we speak.

Well that post just saved me $100. I will stick with the PS3 since it does an amazing job of streaming crunchyroll (even better than the Computer). It would be nice to have something like a Roku that streams and behaves the same way as the PS3 CR app.

Glad to help. However, as jsc315 said, with the newest models there may also be some differences in functionality for those newer devices. I know this is already the case with a few things with and the announcement of the Roku 3 did indicate they were making some software changes such that the newest model would be able to do some things that older models wouldn't. Now, whether or not any of those changes are things that CR developers can/will take advantage of in updating their Roku application, or that would make an option to choose to run episodes one after the other possible, who knows?

But, yes, if it's that important to you, probably better to wait until there are more Roku 3's out there, and then see what Roku 3 users, or CR customer service, have to say about how the CR app behaves with it.

Hi!

I have a Roku hooked up to a kind of crappy television that isn't widescreen. Everything was fine for months and today in the middle of a little marathoning of Bleach, all of the subtitles are getting cut off starting at episode 110. (It's the same for 111, but I haven't checked beyond that.) I can't find any screen resolution settings on the CR channel app. Do I change it on the settings for the Roku itself, and switch back to watch other shows and stuff on other channels? Do I have to watch the rest of Bleach on my laptop? (I'd rather not.) Am I missing a way to get to a settings screen for the app? The only option under the settings section is the screen to link/unlink my account.

Thanks for any advice!

Does your TV have any different playback settings?
Are you able to adjust for overscan on it?

WD unit has missing episodes again
examples: Slam dunk 40-43, Toradora 9-25, Btoom 8,10,12 etc..

I contacted WD, Flingo, and now you.. if it goes like last time.. I'm assuming that there won't be any reply about this issue form anyone..

Flingo uses the same encodes that are used for the Roku, and if that many episodes were missing from the Roku, it would certainly be reported. Unfortunately, this appears to be an issue on Flingo's end, which means there is little CR can do about it.

Regarding Toradora, the problem isn't that you can't see past episode 9, the issue would be that you can see episodes 7-9:
http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-779117/new-catalog-titles-toradora-and-kimi-ni-todoke?

Premium users will get all episodes as they become available, while free users will get the first 6 episodes for each title respectively.

As I understand it, the Flingo app doesn't support login, which means one could only view as a free member via it, which should give you only episodes 1-6.
