I think it is a fascinating idea, and I do not see why the first two people to answer you would react so negatively.

You said science. Why not a form of Human Science?

My suggestion for a topic would be BULLICIDE, or gang stalking by student peer groups in the real and virtual worlds, in and related to school and on the Internet, on lone students to the point that they commit suicide.

Group stalking, gang stalking, and cyber stalking, are all related subjects, but I will focus on the end result which is so much more devastating, actual bullicide.

Bullicide is a new phenomenon since the invention of the Internet, in the form of peer harassment and cyber-stalking. It is so intense and so magnified by the power of the computer and web that a new word had to be invented for it.

Bullicide is the second leading cause of death among teens in Canada, and third leading cause of death in the US. Is that relevant enough?

Key elements of bullicide are long-term harassment and bullying, especially of teens by other teens, with little or no hope of resistance, escape, or reasoning by the victim, and the spontaneous employment of wolf pack tactics by their attackers.

Bullies try to turn a whole group of innocent bystanders or co-students into ostracizing the target or victim in order to smear and isolate that person. They also try to openly associate with and use the good reputations of others around them as moral camouflage for their immoral purposes, to disguise their behavior in a cloak of respectability.

In the old days, when people would just gossip verbally, it was limited by how fast people could dial a telephone and repeat it, and went away as people forgot or lost interest. The nearest thing they had to the Internet was a slam book, and as you may well know, people who use slam books have an especially nasty reputation.

With the invention of the Internet, a few clicks can be multiplied by millions of hits, and nothing is forgotten, it just waits on servers to keep coming back again and again with no hope of ever going away. Cyber slam books, if you will.

Even unintentional harassment is deadly. People make friends with total strangers by chat or forum PM, and trust them, and share personal information, and then are either suckered, or stalked and targeted, or if it was a real relationship between two eligible teen peers, one may dump the other and decide instead to get cute and use what they learned as social ammunition to attack the character of the other. Either way, suddenly the victim realizes his or her most damaging personal secrets are plastered all over the Internet, and they are going into their bedrooms and they are committing suicide in record numbers. The first thing the parents know there is anything is wrong at all is when they walk into their kids bedroom (sometimes by breaking down the door after prolonged silence and waiting) and find their kid dead.

Look at what happened to Miss Teen South Carolina when she flubbed a simple answer; well over ten million hits on youtube attacking her viciously as a moron.

Look at the first two or three responders in this thread to your question. Unless a truly responsible moderator steps in and verifies that your thread is actually spam (I doubt it) or personal (whatever that means), they have made my case by ganging up on you with attempts to give you The YouTube Treatment (plaster you with disrespectful attack posts). In an interesting twist, someone pointed you to the rules, where it says not to shove the rules in anyones face, which is what they just did. And what is the point of posting a huge shiny red button that says EASY, as if you are so far off-base that the entire thread is undeserving of a single word of reply?

I think it would make a great Human Sciences project for you to go for.

Try Googling the word Bullicide, or search for it on YouTube, and take a look at all the stuff that comes up. It is an old phenomenon manifesting itself in a new and especially deadly way through the invention of the Internet. It is relevant. It is still a little known phenomenon, but it is a huge topic. You will be breaking into new territory and it should generate quite a bit of interest from genuinely dedicated students, teachers, and parents.

I have barely touched on the subject here. I can say more.

Hope this helps.
