I used to get my as kicked so bad in elementry school i turned into a bully in highschool. What prompted me to start this thread was because i saw a vid of some asian jkid getting his shit kicked in by the entire class.

Is bullying something that needs to be stamped out, or is it neccessary in some perverse way?

that's pretty ambiguous. Getting beaten every other day toughened me up mentally and physically but made me indifferent, so i can understand why some kids wanna swallow rat poison

You cannot allow extreme cases to happen, (by that I mean not caring about bullies, or completely go to the other extreme and teach our children this is always happyland)

Those experiences are part of growing up, they are part of our psychological and moral development. As long as we responsibly deal with our kid's problems, then as adults they should become reasonable enough to know how to deal with it, or how to stop being bullie.

I experienced both situations

hmm...well, i was an odd child. i was incredibly shy and quiet (weird, huh?) until i was in about 3rd grade, but nobody ever picked on me too much. then in 3rd and 4th grade, i was the total badass, probably one of, if not the, most popular kid in my grade. im not sure why. when my mom forced me to move away from all my friends, i changed, and became extremely hateful. this turned into me being a bully. i kicked kids, and hit them. not just the nerds, the little geeks or anything. in fact i picked on them less. but on the other bullies, on the jock kids, everyone because they made fun of me, and i wouldnt take it. after i moved again, i was just some cool popular kid again, but again, i moved 6 months later. and i became a bully to my now best friend, matt, but to nobody else (for the time being). then people started picking on me, and i would retalliate, but i wasnt a bully anymore to anyone but matt, and that was more because i was trying to get him to break out of his shell, and stand up for himself (its fucked up, i know, but it worked. even his own mother admits, despite me being an ass, he is better off now for it). over time, that bullyness went away almost completely, and i now only bully people online, and alex (lockred on here) a little bit, but its mostly in good fun.

i think bullying is necissary, sadly. without them, we wouldnt get some of the amazing people we have, no doubt. some of the best stories. some of our best friends we meet as fellow bullies, or fellow bullied people. it invokes a sense of justice in some people (despite what many of you think, im an INCREDIBLY morally bound person. my morals are pretty off-cue, but i almost never stray from my set of morals), the bullying and seeing it happen has set that in me. when i see people being bullied now, i often step in and help. i got suspended from school 3 times for that exact thing, actually (2 times friends were being bullies, 1 time a girl was being basically yelled at by her boyfriend, so i stepped in)

its a natural order, and as much as it sucks, it defines who people will be. what we need to do it just keep it under a certain amount, draw a line it cannot escalate above, or we get things like eric herris and dillon klebold, we get people like henry bowers (if youve ever read IT. i know hes fake, but nonetheless)

yea i know what oyur saying mauz, but i think sometimes bullying may be underestimated sometimes and other times it gets overestimated depending on specific situations. it's a part of growing up sure, but then it can get serious real fast.

What is the criterion for absolute abolition of bullying? and if society were to do so, what what be the price society would pay for this extermination of childhood violence?
How would children turn out when they are adults without such experiances?

That is why I said we should not allow either of those extremes.

Some kids jump off a bridge with a backpack full of rocks on their backs because of bullying. I don't think it's necessary. There are other things in life that will teach you how to be tough or what not. It only promotes violence in kids and hurts a great number of them mentally and physically. It's not like you can expect kids that are bullies to miracly change into a better person when they grow up. Allowing bullying is breeding future criminals and menaces to society.

no your right J3ss, but that brings up the questions i posed before

there is also that Nietzzsche quote - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger

that quote is ironic considering the mental decay he experienced in his later life.

Who knows? I'll guess kids who grow up without getting bullied and with the right morals and ethics will lead an emotionally better life.

I also don't think bullies are necessary. People can grow strong without them. I was bullied a little but I barely remember it since it was so long ago and was only for one school year.

Bullies are a leach on society just like any adult who displays violent behavior.
