Internet kill switch /on

Can't wait till the 'usage' of this new bill get's expanded to cover more criteria that is considered an emergency. Guess what 'emergency power that takes away rights', has been used for over the course of history. Only one thing, perserving the government lies. This is the same thing that Hitler did in Germany while it was a democracy. He asked for 'Emergency powers' that would grant him the ability to stop elections, democratic processes and take rights from the people. He uses the 'Emergency' to destroy political competition and secure Nazi Germany as the primary Fascist power.

GG.

For starters, the bill has not been passed by either the Senate or the House - it has only been approved by a Senate committee.

Secondly, I can certainly see scenarios where the need to stop traffic to critical infrastructure from outside threats would be necessary (power grids, for instance).

Thirdly, if the bill is written too broadly (and depending what's tacked onto it during negotiotiations between the Senate and the House), it's almost certain to draw a constitutional challenge if it's seen to infringe upon First Amendment rights.

In other words, being approved by a committee is not an guarantee that a bill will pass; there are dozens of bills written every year that fail for every one that passes after all. This one might pass - but it's going to be a tough sell if it's too broadly written or if it disrupts the abilities of people to do business.
