Lately I've been thinking and i realized that not everyone has the same qualifications for a good anime, so what is everyone's qualifications?
mine are that the plot has to be moving, if not make me cry. and the humor can't be too cheesy unless that is what they are shooting for.
and honestly no other anime represents these qualities to me better than Eureka SeveN.
So to all the otaku's out there, what makes you make an anime otaku worthy!?

It has to fit the genre. So if it's labeled as action then I better not see any sissy slaps. If it's horror then I should be watching it muted with only one eye open. etc. I would also like for it to have a compelling story that doesn't bore me. Every episode should be a joy, I don't want to be in a situation where I have to skip certain episodes before my interest is peaked again. Finally, it has to be visually appealing. As a kid I used to watch old school anime, but now my preferences has changed to a more modern style type. Well I think that pretty much sums it up for now

In my opinion, all a good anime needs is a well-developed plot and a good animation style that has had some work put into it.

Others may argue that some good anime don't have one or the other, but without both can you really call the anime "good"?

As long as its not an up-its-own-ass-"Look how deep" we are anime with crappy animation and weird fucking costumes, then I'm good.

Something I love in an anime is originality.

Anime Section though =D

Why was this thread reported?

Anyhow... good animation. No shitty schoolgirl storyline. Don't give a shit who's dating who, it's the end of the world or nothing.

Not too much fighting, funny, and most importantly it musn't have a sad ending.

Example of too much fighting: Gurren Laggan
Example of good anime ruined by not having a happy enough ending: Elfen Lied

Since I'm tired of explaining this all the time, I'm just gonna give the dumbed down version this time.

Good Story.
Deep Plotting.
Interesting characters.
Comfortable Pacing.
No plot conveniences.
Smart Dialogue.
No loose ends.
A well constructed conclusion.
NO DEUS EX MACHINA'S!!!

Well that's how I look at it, I'm sure I'm missing a few things in there but that's most of it.
Still all I see on anime lately is dumb fluff... but hey, people eat it up like bread and circuses. However it is nice when every once in a while a real good anime comes out. That always makes me happy. Rare, but it does happen.

To me, it's how the concept is approached/formed.

Character development is key for that. We should be given clear information on the character(s) and how they will be used in the series.

Plot, it might be the most important thing. This leads to the story, incorporation of characters, etc. This is basically how the whole 'story' turns out.

Pacing, if everything is rushed, it ruins the whole story. If it's too slow, it bores the viewer. Pacing makes the story flow well.

I'll have to rethink about this... I remember writing a lot about these things down.

No cheap action shots or titles for "technique moves" like Nurarihyon no Mago. Emphasis on CHEAP ACTION SHOTS. There need to be up-to-standard action scenes.
No "bubbly" music like in Mad-sama! It just take up too much time in a 21 min anime.
Has characters who do NOT repeat their ideals over and over again. The typical protagonist in Harem genres like from Asobi ni iku yo.
If there is a weak protagonist, he better become more manly like in Gurren Lagann.
The bloody male love interest in shojo anime should not act like loner. That's why I and other people can not tolerate Vampire Knight.

Examples of "good" anime.
Ouran High School Host Club, although they have bubbly scenes, they speak during the scene much faster than other anime.
Gurren Lagann.
Code Geass.

I'm glad to see a lot of people seem to have the same taste in anime as i do.
out of all those reasons the ones that stood out the most to me is the protagonist who over-states their goals, and overly sad endings. because i cry too must watching so of the sadder anime as is and i want to enjoy a happy ending once in a while. and DEUS EX MACHINA RUIN ALMOST EVERYTHING THEY ARE INCLUDED IN.

My qualifications are simple. I have to enjoy the anime. If I enjoy the anime then I consider it good. I could also argue the good points of that show.

Sarcasm. Very mature.

You know if you don't like my answer to a post you can simply skip over it. Now unless you can actually act like a 19 year old adult do you want to try and answering the question? Or are you on full troll mode?
