Honestly if you get as deeply offended from a bad cosplay as you say and if not doing it right is THAT insulting to you, you seriously need a life. That aside, the only difference Race really makes is skin color, like a dark-skinned asian/black/hispanic person cosplaying as Naruto or Sakura or Inuyasha would just be weird and wouldn't look right. Where as a white or light-skinned asian person cosplaying as Killer Bee or any of the Noah clan of D.Gray-Man wouldn't look right either. Bottom line is it depends on the character, but either way it shouldn't be a law or whatever, that's just ridiculous. There can be bad cosplay in any race, there can be amazing cosplay in any race, it depends on the individual person and their chosen character. Limiting cosplay to asians would be like limiting football or baseball to whites and basketball and boxing to blacks.

I believe that the cosplayer's weight and clothing is more important in cosplay, then ethnicity

Race not only affect someone skin colour but also their facial & body form.

Also no one here said Cosplay should only for Asian, what this topic trying to say is peoples must stick to their own race.

I reiterate, if you're that deeply offended over a FICTIONAL character, you need to have your head examined and get a life. There's this thing called the out doors, and society and real people that are far more offensive. And honestly, regardless of whether you like it or not, what exactly are you planning to do?

Anybody care to ban this racist idiot?

It seems like you have a problem with non-asians cosplaying. I don't think that someone is going to get hurt by the face that someone eles is cosplaying a character they like. Personally, with me being asian, I would probably think it's cool that people who are not just asian no about whatever anime they're cosplaying. In society people aren't low enough to point out that "oh your not asian, you can't cosplay" Race takes no part in cosplay. What does take part in cosplay though is how you wear it. It would be offfending now if I saw someone tottaly wearing a messed up version of my favortie anime. Race won't bother anyone, its how you wear it that does.

She said she wasn't saying no cosplay for non-asians, just that they should stick to characters that are more obviously their race. Like maybe an anime character with blond hair/blue eyes etc for a more western look. Which bring up a point. Should only someone with blond hair/blue eyes be able to try to cosplay as a character like that? Should only someone with the exact proportions of a character be able to try to cosplay as that character? Where are the limits drawn with this type of thinking?

I think that anyone can attempt to cosplay as any type or form of character they choose. Just because they are trying to cosplay as a character that might not be their race doesn't mean they aren't allowed to or that it would insult the majority of fans.

There are some that may feel it's bad, but I believe the majority would be fine. You can find almost anything on any subject/topic/act that will upset a few people, but if the majority are fine with it is it wrong?

ProudAsian Kid. Cosplay to me, is a form of expression. Race shouldn't play a card in cosplay. And it seems you're getting upset over a fictional character... I'm sure that person who cosplay as "your love" meant you no harm. And probably didn't even know you.

No it doesn't matter and for one simple reason, nobody will ever be able to look exactly like who they are trying to look like, so who cares, let them have fun.

Why should I let them having fun by insulting the one I love?

Because your being more insulting by divided people into races for your own selfish "love".

Geez...

Cosplay is meant to be fun. For me it doesn't matter the height, age, weight, gender, color, nor race. As long as you have the courage to commit to it, I say go for it. And if a person gets offended by it... screw them.

race is something that seperates humans.
the only real race is the human race.
the color of our skin may be different but we are all the same.
human...
but ideally, if you want to look like a certain person, it's best if you already look a little like them, ex. skin color.

Agree with BugginMary. It's just dressing up as a character. Nothing serious about that to keep other ethnicities from doing so.
Judging by your sudden return to the forums and comments in this thread, you're looking to start trouble. Prejudice much?

Hey I heard cosmode [ one of Japanese Cosplay magazine ] have stopped showing western cosplayers due to many complains from its readers in Japan.

Ok, Proud Kid....how about one of your buddies playing this badass dude....

From what I have read this guy will..... An actor by the name of Lance Gross...not Asian!!!

The only reason I focus on Afro Samurai is because of your statement concerning factal form and body....
