A girl kicking ass is great, but it is not my forte to have a fighting girl as the main character.

Strong female leads, especially the fighting type, are some of the best when done right, Birdy Cephon Altera is a nice example.

well said, and excellent example. Birdy the mighty: decode is a great show. (I have not seen the original OAV)

this is a bit off topic of the current conversation, but in terms of character design I was talking with a friend and he also agreed.

Korra is pretty muscular.

Not in a bad way, not in a manly way, just she looks like she'd be one tough cookie in a street fight sans bending.

When a lot of animated female leads (even the strong ones) get a bit of an unrealistic, overly-sexified body (birdy is SLIGHTLY guilty of this, although they don't shove tons of fan service down your throat every chance they get) it can kind of detract from a strong personality.

yes its nickelodeon, but regardless.

being fit does not always mean having giant boobs or an extremely tiny waist.

True. Although it's all up to the creator if they think a character should have huge F cup breasts and a skimpy outfit opposed to more... realistic proportions and depending on which they chose yes it does subtract from the strong personality type (usually). Also about the ova, it's older therefore the animation is a little dated but regardless it looks great. The plot is different (hence Decode being a remake) and the character designs are different but overall it's solid. Decode takes from the manga author's remake (Birdy the Mighty II) started in 2003 of his original attempt at the series in 1985 which he had dropped. Birdy the Mighty II has more story and also the plot diverges from the anime adaptation as well as the basic character designs are changed in that they look more like his original attempt. As you can tell I'm sort of a fan, then again I don't read the manga.

Back on topic, Avatar: The Legend of Korra is a promising show and I hope it does good. From the looks of it it's fairing pretty well.

Sad that I missed yesterday's episode and it's not up on Nickelodeon's website yet. Time to search the internets I guess.

I am sooo excited to see Korra go into her Avatar state. Hopefully, she'll fight as adult Aang the way that he fought as Roku when they were at the Fire Temple.

Beautiful. The animation is so crazy I can compare it to a 2012 anime or something~
*Cough* no anime series surpasses korra in animation quality.Your typical anime of 30 minutes costs about 10,000,00 yen (145,000 USD) per episode with the more expensive ones like ghost in the shell costing a total of 30,000,000 yen(375,000 usd) per episode, but that pales in comparison to the original avatar which costed 1,000,000 USD per episode.Anime uses alot of limited animations which pretty much sucks and seeing how korra requires hundreds of artists from 3 different countries(nickelodeon animation studios/america,Mir studios/korrea,technicolor studios/india) it's production costs must be off the chain.I would say it easily has the best animations on any animated series that I ever seen.

IMO Amon is turning out to be an awesome villain, perhaps even better than Ozai
Korra shoots a Fireball, it explodes behind Amon as he climbs into his airship, Amon avoids it without even turning around

I can't wait for Korra to enter Avatar State. I don't like how they portray the Avatar as weak and not even able to win against normal benders.
