Next go to File>Open as layers
Select a texture that you have in your picture files(or whatever) and open it.
It should pop up in front of you picture.
Go to you're Layers box and above the box with the layers in it and above it there's a drop down bar that says normal. Click the arrow on it and play around with it. See what you get.
If you don't like it, just go to Edit>undo layer merge.
Steps to get there:(it's really easy)
1)Create a new(transparent) layer
2)Use the path tool:
To create a spiral like this.
When you have a spiral like that......
3)Click "stroke selection" on the tool box
4)Go to Filters>Alpha to logo>Neon
5) you'll get a black background. Delete it
6)Click the eraser And erase the parts that you don't want. I wouldn't cover up the face if i were you.
There you have it^^
Tip: I would bend the ends up to make it look more realistic
Alright so You can download a ton of brushes on deviantart.com. Search, like, gimp brushes or something.
So you've got a bunch of brushes. What you do is thatthere's a download button off to the side. Click it. save it to your desktop so you can extract them.(you almost always have to extract them. if you can't extract them get a WinRar.)Then, once you've downloaded all the brushes you want onto your desktop,, right-click and it should say "extract files" somewhere. Click that and save them to your gimp brush file. Don't have one just create one.
:) That's pretty much it. : D
(if you have gimp running, close it and then open it again. They should all be there ^^

Go from this:
1)Open you picture.
2)Copy By pressing ctrl+d. it should look like this:
3)3: Make the copy black and white, but make sure that when you're done to CONVERT IT BACK TO AN RGB. To make it black and white, I prefer going to Colors>Colorize and desaturating it completely, but it's up to you.
4)4Select all (ctrl+A) Copy it (Ctrl+C). DO NOT CLOSE IT!!!!!!!!!!!! Go to the original and add new, TRANsPARENT layer. Then, paste the copy on the original. (Ctrl+V) It Should look like this:
5)Close the copy and anchor the pasted layer down.
6)Step 6: Create a WHITE layer mask
It should look like this:
7)Select the brush tool and go over the parts you want to be in color. If you make a mistake select the eraser tool and erase it.
8)Add effects if you want to and save it
Now you're done^^

:Make a new image filled with the Foreground color I used 420x300
Use the text tool and type out what you want. Thick fonts work best. I used Reboard, size 150 and center justified
Choose the select by color tool and click on the text
Delete the text layer in the dialogue box. It will look like this
Open the image that you want to fill your text with (It works best if the image is about the size of your text image)
From the image go to Edit>Copy. DO NOT CLOSE IT YET.
Go to your text and go to Edit> Paste into (Not paste, paste INTO. It won't work if you just paste) Now you can close your image.
Step 9: Move the image around if you want
Step 10: Add extras if you want. I Droped a shadow. To drop a shadow go to Filters> Light and shadow > Drop Shadow. For my shadow I made my offsets both 2, Blur raidius 10, color F9AA3B, Opacity 80. Then anchor the layer by going to Layer>Anchor layer. After you anchor it you won't be able to edit it. Then go to Select> none. I also rendered it.
