Are there any plans to provide subtitles in other languages, e.g. German? I personally don't need them but it looks like there's some demand for them if I look at the German fansubbing community. Futhermore, the German fansub codex still works more or less so providing subtitles would prevent many grups from fansubbing the shows. If the translation is too expensive, perhaps fan translations from the English ones might be possible, which is the way it's most times done in German fansubs. If fan translations will be possible on certain legal manga sites in the future, it should also work for anime.

Furthermore, I hope that more shows are released with less region restrictions, especially for older shows by the larger anime companies like Kadokawa this should be possible because it's imprbable that somebody will still buy the rights if they didn't do it until now.

We've had an advanced system that would allow user-uploaded subtitles (fansubs) to be submitted for videos since mid 2008 but, at the beginning of 2009, our main Publishers in Japan wouldn't allow us to utilize it anymore. So we're stuck either paying for the subtitles ourselves or receiving subtitles from other companies in the Anime biz.

So the reason we haven't been providing other languages is because it's simply too expensive for us. However, because our company is becoming more profitable, we have already started planning to add more subtitle languages in the future to open up our site to people who don't understand English or prefer subtitles in their native language. This will most likely be done 1 language at a time so we don't over-extend ourselves.

The most spoken language on the internet is English. Second is Chinese but their are to many chinese people on crunchyroll or any anime site for that matter. Third is Spanish and I know a lot of people who speak spanish and like anime on the internet so you should do that language first. Japanese is the Fourth you guys don't need subtitles in japanese since most your shows aren't available in japan and you don't need subtitles if you speak japanese just listen to it. 5th is Portugeese and 6th is German.
