Well, I only scored a 13 so I think I'm cool. I hope. Anyway, to me, as long as you know not to take things to seriously, it's okay to be oppressed with the things you love. I think it's better to express your true emotions rather than to hide them. I am most definitely an Anime/Videogame Otaku, and damn proud of it. But I'm not weeboo damn it.

I got a book titled "Dirty Japanese" for Christmas which has an explanation for the word "otaku", though I know "otaku" isn't a dirty word.

Otaku is a word that, like bukkake, has insinuated itself into the English language. These are the guys who spend all night in their apartment with the lights out, playing World of Warcraft and jerking off to science fiction anime. This is not a judgmental description: in my opinion these folks deserve our awe and our reverance. They have the balls to do what your ego and pride will never allow you to do - sink into the mire of self-indulgence, without any regard for what society might say. So next time an otaku walks by you on his way to the video arcade, stop for a moment, take off your hat, and hum the intro to Final Fantasy, in the slightly wavering key of hesitant admiration.

Oh crud! I guess I am one anyway.

Of course on the other hand I fail the Otaku tests on AMP. You know, the ones that have to do with pattern recognition. (Pages 460 - 475, roughly, on Anime Motivational Posters here)

I collect Pocky boxes, but only because they make good pencil holders.

For me, an otaku is someone who says yes to more than seven boxes on this chart:

Other than the foods and Prefering subs over dubs, I suppose that chart might be accurate.

Yeah, enjoying something 'because it's japanese' is pretty weaboo, but to dismiss something as weaboo just because it's japanese is racist.

If burn notice or NCIS or House etc had entire seasons streamed online, I'd probably pay a subscription to watch those as well.

otkau is not anything good or used in a positive way what so ever. It is a derogatory statement for 'anime fans" and is acutally a quit hurtful word to call some one in japan.

Many people find the word " Otaku" offensive...
I personally like it !!! It means that I am devoted to something!!! That I really take seriousness of whatever I am into.
Whether its Anime, cosplay, photography or cooking!! to the extend of starting to love that hobby!!

Good question ... hmm ...
I say the true meaning of Otaku, is a person that's passionate about anime that they would go through all lenghts for anime.
Otaku's are those who dedicate their everything to anime. :DD
Essentially people who don't watch anime would call them NERDS.
Cause they collect a lot of stuff, and know everything about different types of anime's, games, manga ... even know Japanese.

Otaku to me is just really anyone who loves either anime, manga, and games, or all the above.
As for the little chart determining otaku/weaboo-ness, I can proudly say I scored 20 out of 25. I feel so special now <3
