In terms of combat ability it's gotta be Amuro Ray on his RX 78-2 or Nu Gundam. When it comes to optimism, Cap't Amada from the 8th MS team. Last but not least, when it comes to temper...nothing beats Domon Kashu. I consider those 3 as the best lol

Heero Yui and the Wing Zero custom
Heero can pretty much pilot any gundam as good as their original pilot in Gundam Wing. He used so many different ones. Wing, Heavyarms(once), Mercurius, Epyon, then finally Wing Zero.

You must of not seen Amuro in Char's Counter-Attack....In CCA, Amuro takes shit from no one. Besides, he was only 14-15 in the One Year War. >_>
Well...I'd vote for Camille and Judau for Newtype ability, Char for leadership, and Heero for suicide missions. XD
