Evangelion is old?

I'm used to thinking of 'old' as something I watched on a bootleg betamax,

No, they ran out of budget halfway through the series and couldn't finish the anime properly. They then remastered and changed the last two episodes of it after money from DVD sales came in. Also, if you know any good anime from before 2000's recommend me some.

I'm a little fuzzy on the whole 'good'/ 'bad' thing...

seriously though, what do you mean by 'good'? There's some who swear by Space Battleship Yamamoto and others who think "Ranma one of two" or "Maison Ikiku" are the bomb. I always liked Dominion Tank Police myself. For short (four OVA) series it was a lot of fun. Make sure you watch the sub though. In the dub the replace the awesome soundtrack with cheezy 80's technofunk.

And don't forget that Otonashi is Kyon.

OT, there's been no official statement of a second season; the director's even denied that they'll be making another season.

In what way is Otonashi Kyon? The characters of the two are completely different. Sure, they look the same, but Kyon was always against Haruhi. By the middle of the series, Otonashi was supporting Yuri's mission, and by the end, he changed his view to support Kanade.

In Haruhi, Kyon was just being... Kyon.

Whilst the purpose of the characters are different, in terms of their roles, when their charactertisation is critically examined, both are shown as deadpan, sardonic characters. More specifically, they are the normal people in a world of crazy. Both characters undergo similar processes of metamorphose in order to arrive at a similar conclusion: the world of crazy that they live in isn't that bad after all.
Yes, Kyon is far more snarky than Otonashi, but they have similar characters. In an interview, the producers of the anime even said that they consciously modelled Yurippe, Otonashi and Tenshin after Haruhi, Kyon and Yuki.

there won't be a season 2, or it will take a long time considering it's success. but I would like one at least in some form.

the first season was really a waste of time. the characters had so much potential for development, but yet they didn't explorit on character development AT ALL. and the end was just so rand and yuri and kanade acted so out of character it was ridiculous. it felt like there was at least 13 episodes missing in this series.

shiina, TK, kanade, yuzuru, yuri, and hell, all the characters needed more character development. really angel beats almost failed for me in the end. having it to be 26 episodes would've made it one of the best animes in the recent years.

if there's a season 2, it should be a remake/alternate version of season 1. or have the blonde guy fight against yuzuru.

damn is this a waste of potential.

I'd heard that KEY had originally planned for a 26 episode anime, but it got shortened to a 13, which explains why everything was really rushed and completely plot-driven. They did waste a lot of the episodes though. - More information here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angel_Beats!#Anime_production

A second season of Angel Beats! would completely ruin the ending set out by the first season. The theme of it will be all off, because Otonashi and Kanade is in the living world.

An alternate version of Season 1 would probably be very bad, because it was totally wrapped up at the ending. Even though Key is a visual Novel company, and is good at making alternate endings, unless they make it completely different from the first season, from the very first episode, nobody will want to watch it.

A remake/remastery of it will be too soon. The only things that get remade are very popular old anime, e.g. the possibly upcoming Rurouni Kenshin, or anime where they run out of budget and couldn't finish properly, e.g. Evangelion. If I am wrong, send me some examples.

A possible suggestion would be to do a Haruhi, and insert episodes within the first season, so that it becomes a 26 episode anime, but that probably wouldn't work very well, because, unless they remake the ending so that the characters actually disappear during their individual arcs, e.g. Like Iwasawa (the first singer).

FinalIy, I totally agree that it was a waste of potential.

I'm gold that you did agree with me, but here's the thing, this abundant isn't made by key, but one who virtually made all their successful titles, Jun Maeda. He directly wrote tge anime, but he probably planned 26 episodes since he is not very good with the time restraint, he'd better at writing visual novels.

he also says he is preparing to write a VN of it(likely adult), and Kyoto animation, who adepted his previous 3 successful games, also remade Kanon just after 5 years after another company did it, so it may be likely that Kyoto animation may as well do an adoption of Angel Beats the game

So I would also like to add, the game is likely to be alternate ending, angel beats is one of the most viewed Animes on channel 2 so I believe there will be plenty of people watching.

Also FMA got a remake...... That is all.

Jun said that "13 episodes of around 21 minutes would not be enough to tell the whole story that he had envisioned." So he did plan for much longer.

It also says that the VN, or to more accurate, "game" is not confirmed yet, and still needs to be green-lit. And yes, it doesn't need to be a VN, but although it most likely will be.

I was also talking about how a remake would not be made soon, as everyone on this thread seems to be talking about it being in this year or the next. Kanon had 5 years difference and a huge graphic difference between the original and the remake.

And you should learn to read other, more recent posts before you rant.

I finished the show, and other than making a prequel I don't think that it would made any sense to make a second season with new characters. Everything in the plot was already resoled, so making another season may just be a waste of time and just be a repeat of what already happened. If they are to make something similar thy should just make it a different anime entirely.

Not to say that the anime wasn't totally amazing.

I've seen both endings... 1 is where Otonashi stays, but there's also a end where he leaves and goes back to the world of the living only to find "Angel.." Possibly, as he were reaching for her shoulder. So it could go one of two ways I highly doubt there will be prequal as there is no need for it.
