JAPAN SHOULD SHARE THEIR VISUAL NOVELS IN ALL LANGUAGES >=O Yeah, but even if you say that, Visual Novels are so damn text heavy, it would take forever to translate them into any other language. =/ Also, cuz there are so many different choices you can take, to lead to different endings, the games are rather complicated/complex. If you want to find some Visual novels though, I have some links here: http://insani.org/index.html ...and if you're looking for "18+" ones (you know wut I mean :3) hshare.net has like, ALL of them. They're in the ADV games section. You can find it on the left navigation bar. |

cleaverboy wrote: It is very hard for any non japanese people to get their hands on Visual novels because the american video game industry doesn't recognize the appeal of these great games. They are happy with all their FPS's and visual novels don't get any recognition. They really are great games however esspecially if you love simulation esque games. I've played Fate/stay night/ and all the Girlfriend of Steel games plus a few others. These games have great art direction and really are undercredited. You do know, we don't like these games anymore because we PIONEERED these type of games, and have long sense advance beyond them. People always give credit to Japan, but gaming is American (sorta) Gaming started with a Jewish dude's invention (not pong ffs) He was in America because, well you know WW2 and such. Gaming kicked off in America, and died for the most part here. It was brought back to life by Japanese people, with there (this is important) arcade style games that didn't die there. In America, because the console market died and arcades were not so big anymore, gaming was largely PC. One popular PC game genre were Text based adventures, which evolve into Visual Novels. Japanese gaming was to arcade oriented to create this type of game, imagine sitting in a arcade and then reading, yeah, no. This game has now picked up in Japan, because these games are VERY easy to develop, and are very cheap. With almost no programing knowledge, you can be well on your way to making a Visual Novel. In America on the other hand, we have been here and done this, and do not want to play things we have done forever ago. We also have a better developer community, so for low cost you can do more as compared to Japan where being a developer means your aspiring to a future of long overtime hours with no pay. Most of these games are small time or Indie, and compared to American small time and Indie they don't really stack up. You could read a book with pictures or you could play a game like Portal (Yes, Portal WAS just a bunch of students project till Valve said "I think you guys got something there") Our small time scene is much more innovative and just better that we don't need to waste time on Visual Novels that we used to play 20 something years ago. Not to say all Japanese small time is this way, because I know some damn good Japanese small time stuff to. |

My friend had one on DVD and he said it was a game where you try to piss off the girls as much as you can and then you win. I got so bored within the first 2 minutes of reading I almost fell asleep on his couch lol. |

I have played some visual novels, but get annoyed by the fact that most are just bad in story, content and mostly at least one sexial intercourse with the female chars. Whether it is conected to the plot or not.
The better visual novel i have played is Utawareremono. Despite the sex scenes they have...... Still it was good with the story, music, art and rpg elements they had ingame.^^ |
