...because they're a great distraction. At the end of the day, all I want to do is curl up with a manga/anime/Kdrama and just zone out for at least an hour.
Insomnia got me watching anime. A paper I wrote in college for an American Sign Language course got me into manga (sounds very random, I know). And now I'm addicted for life! Yay!

i am reading manga, and watching anime. both have their advantage.
like air gear, naruto manga, bleach manga, fairy tail or theone piece manga, the anime can show the feeling directly, and when reading manga, i can image the sense.
so cool.

The reason why i am watching anime and reading manga is because i remember i was looking for a Queen (the band) video on YouTube. I clicked on the video Killer Queen. It was an AMV on Faye Valentine from Cowboy Bebop. I was like this seems interesting so i started to watch Cowboy Bebop. That was my first anime.

I'm actually not a big reader, I find it really hard to actually have the patience and attention to get through a book. Manga's are quick and easy and fun to read, even if its serious. Also the artwork, I love looking at the artwork.

I don't watch anime too much (not a lot of time to get any of it in) but I love it for the artwork also, and it's entertaining. Plus with anime I can watch it in Japanese with English subtitles and pick up a few things here or there.

Also I think the best part is there are so many different types, some of it is just soooooo unrealistic but probably more creative than a regular novel, while others can be so realistic its almost frightening but one can easily relate to it. I have a hard time relating to the story in novels sometimes ( like with the characters or situations, maybe that's why I don't read them much? ) but I seem to find a better connection with manga.

Entertainment. I love animation, and the best comes from Japan. As far as manga, I am not sure why I still read so much, buy so much... I mean, I started reading manga because I liked anime. The first manga I read was Love Hina after seeing the TV series, but nowadays I do read a lot, and sometimes I get SUPER MAD at it.

I recently read the first 3 volumes of InuYasha and couldn't continue because of how the translation was done. I reviewed it on my almost never updated Otaku blog here: http://garylisk.blogspot.com/2011/08/inuyasha-vizbig-edition-review.html

Lately, I've been reading One Piece, and I am getting mad at it, too... They used Zolo instead of Zoro for one of the characters' names. I am waiting to see what happens when he gets a wanted poster later on and it says "ZORO" on it. Just ignore it? I don't think they are going to change at this point. They also annoyingly renamed Chopper's moves, which were already in English as "Guard Point" "Brain Point" etc... to "Guard Boost", "Brain Boost"... I wonder why. It certainly feels like western audiences are being treated like they are stupid by the localization team, though.

Sorry to gripe about those here, but really, that's why I question why I even still read manga. Anyway, I work tonight, I have to go to bed now, but I think I'll read some Negima before sleeping. By the way, the new "Negima Omnibus" volumes that just came out feature a new translation, and it's WAY better than before, so at least one company is doing something right. (Kodansha, and before them, Del Rey had been doing Negima, and after the first several volumes, did a great job of it.)

Long post was long.

Mostly because the quality of the writing and art are impressive. I enjoy many forms of entertainment, but currently, Anime and Manga have some of the better storytellers and artists creating some of the most interesting stories available.

I have been watching anime since a friend introduced it to me to it in my sophomore year at high school. That was ten years ago and it was only until a year ago I began reading manga. Now I personally enjoy the manga as much if not more than anime...
