Yeah, that too.

But seriously though. if it we ARE talking gender politics and not favourite animes... fear/hatred of the LGBTQ community has a different flavour when directed against lesbians. I'm not saying it's less, but it is different.

Of course not because there' nothing really gay about it at all . Just a straight guy-straight guy action that only happens in the poor deseased minds of yaoi fangirls. Two boys can't even stay in the same room or just talk with each other (maybe even about girls they like) and they become immediately a canon yaoi pairing. But nothing is more annoying than when thay pair-up rivals who hate each other.

So you dislike yaoi. It's your choice to like or dislike it. This is one of the reasons why I hate crazy rabid fangirls.

They start mocking and labeling you if you don't like what they like. It's annoying. People have choices you know.

Whatever the fangirls call you, forget it. Remember, they're just stupid, crazy and rabid fangirls.

Ahh this reminds me of the good ol' days when fangirls stupidity decides to write numerous fan-fiction of KaibaxJonouchi from Yugioh because for some screwed up reason they think their love hate relationship made them a couple and flamed anyone who disagrees.

More of a non sequiter than an ad hominem.

No ad hominen is exactly right. attack the arguer, not the argument. "your dislike of yaoi is invalid because you're a homophobe' is PURE ad hominen.

I always feared that I was homophobic for disliking yaoi, sounds silly, I know. Glad to know that isn't the case.

But my answer would be no. Disliking something does not make you have a phobic of it.

I'm open minded myself and I don't understand pairing two characters who obviously hate each other up. I also don't understand pairing two characters up who hate each other and are also brothers (ahem Devil May Cry). I've also seen the word 'Homophobic' dropped by people so often it feels like no one, no matter what, can have an opposing opinion without being labeled homophobic.

Not at all, I don't like Afro Samurai and that doesn't make me racist. There is a color for every taste they say.

Except that personal taste isn't an argument, and so does not require logical justification. In order for it to be an ad hominem, the person who doesn't like yaoi would have to be making some kind of argument against yaoi, and then the person who, assumedly, likes that material would be making a personal attack instead of addressing the logic of the argument. Instead, the person who likes yaoi is making a fallacious assumption about the reason someone would not like that material: that they are a homophobe.

Non sequiter means it does not follow. Homophobia is by no means the only reason someone would dislike yaoi. Since many people simply do not like Japanese anime and manga art style, there are likely gay men who don't like yaoi, a subset of manga, and there are probably straight men and women who do not like it for the same reason. Straight fans of manga/anime might not like yaoi because they have difficulty personally identifying with themes of same-sex attraction and sexuality. While it's possible that anti-gay bigotry or homophobia might be a factor, one can not logically arrive at that conclusion from a simple expression of distaste or lack of personal interest.

Fair enough. i'll concede that.

though i suspect ad hominem represents the intent of those who make the argument. It may be a non-sequitor but the intent is to dissmiss a person's opinions by dismissing the person.

Lmao It's a really big issue on DeviantArt. I see it almost everyday with yaoi and non-yaoi fans, arguing over something so stupid.
I think some of those kids were deprived of vitamins to help with healthy brain function and growth. With the comments they've said, you wouldn't believe it. kippu basically summed up what many of them said. Some even say yaoi and yuri helps support gay rights too, believe or not.
