So what do you all think? Dose disliking yaoi instantly make someone homophobic?

No. I dislike Yaoi, but I'm a gay rights supporter. If those fangirls are going to label me a hypocrite, then they are so wrong. Yaoi is basically guy on guy action. While I have nothing against gay couples, I am definitely not into watching them doing it. Just like even though I'm straight, I don't find myself looking for hentai to watch. Yaoi is a genre that isn't enjoyed by everyone in the world. I admit that some of the yaoi character designs are hot, but I don't find myself reaching out to anything in the genre. Yaoi is an entertainment preference, homophobia on the other hand is a political standing/ a part of a person's value system in judging others. Homophobic people will definitely dislike yaoi, but people who dislike yaoi aren't necessarily homophobic. These fangirls are just forcing their own preferences on others or they feel that they must justify their preference in front of others. I think it's perfectly normal that girls are turned on by guyxguy just as guys are turned on by girlxgirl. It's just not my thing.

Had to rant it out lol

I always wondered what the point of yaoi or shounen ai was.

I mean, you have guys that look like girls and act like girls (and the animated ones even tend to have female voices). They're so far from being men that I can't see them as being men at all. They might as well have full-on female bodies.

It's basically yuri where all the main characters have been given penises and flat chests. This actually appeals to females? I know it's not targeted at males, regardless or whether they are gay or straight. There's simply nothing there to appeal to males. The gay men I know tend to prefer manly men. Straight men don't prefer men at all.

So, what is it about girls with penises and flat chests making out that appeals to females? I can only guess that they are gay homophobes. It actually makes sense, if you think about it. They get to enjoy their hot yuri action while pretending they're getting off to a bunch of guys.

To take it a step further, you could even say the reason they tend to accuse yaoi haters of being homophobes is because they themselves are homophobes. It's the standard tactic of attacking your enemy by targeting your own weak points to try to throw them off and shield yourself from having the same attack used against you.

im not homophobic but it bothers me how my favorite male character is paired with another just to fulfill someone's fantasy. i find it sick.

but, i don't find anything wrong with a character that's already gay to start with and is paired with another. just don't make a straight character gay for your pleasure. arghhhhh.. rageeeeeeeeee.

No, I hate how yoai fangirls pair up my favorite character with someone they just consider friends like... Lelouch!! He definitely line c.c.! Also Kyon did not in any way express love to itsuki fag. And yoai in general us just made to turn people on, so it'd not homophobic !

THIS pretty much sums up my opinion on it. Those fangirls seem like marketers-all they want to do is shove their opinions down your throat.

First off...
I read and watch yaoi, yuri, het, and non-romantically centered anime and manga. I am myself a slasher, meaning I will pair up two characters who are not cannon. I tend to run on the side of "not giving a damn," however, and I feel my views are appreciated by those I keep contact with.

I have seen both sides of this argument, and I have realized that both sides can be completely irrational.

On one end, not liking yaoi in no way makes you homophobic. This is completely ridiculous for reasons already pointed out in this thread. I think it is a funny thought, especially when those same people making the argument will turn around and say they hate yuri (commonly because "girl on girl is so gross!" I wish I was making this up).

Another complaint I see in this thread is that others attest their slash pairings as being correct, and many do shove them down other people's throats. It is a quality I simply cannot stand in people, and it seems many others feel the same. This is not limited to yaoi, however, and I will throw out the pitiful example of fanfic authors writing in an original character or, worse, the writer them self, and declaring the love to be true and no other pairing cannon. Thus, they "claim" the character. So this is not simply limited to yaoi in itself (but just as annoying wither way).

But let me flip through to the other side of the spectrum, as there are behaviors existing there that non-yaoi fans should aim to cease. There are quite a few anti-yaoi folk who tend to voice their opinions on the subject very openly. While in the right forum this is fine, but in many cases it can find it's way into a hateful form. For instance, after posting my fan art or fan fiction, I have received comments such as, "Yaoi sucks" or "Those two characters don't belong together" or "You should just delete this, it is gross and wrong" or even "Yuri is so gross, you must be a lesbian ewww." I don't try to push any kind of art or fiction down anyone's throat, either. My work does not go far beyond a few message boards and Deviant Art.

Anyway, I've gone on too long with this already.

TL;DR: All I'm saying is that a lot of attitudes on both sides of this argument are pushy and quite frankly annoying. I think instead of complaining we should all work on pointing out what annoys us on either side and working to change our responses to material we don't necessarily agree with, in this case, yaoi.

Disliking yaoi in no way makes you homophobic or what my friend thought of "Homointolerant", it just means you don't like guy on guy action or you are just not interested in it for whatever reason that is.
Although you could be a homointolerant person and just instantly dislike yaoi because you are homointolerant, but that's usually not the case; but some people are homointolerant and therefore dislike things like yaoi or yuri.
But like I said, usually that isn't the case for most.

Being a homosexual myself I am personally not into heterosexual romances, but it doesn't mean I am heterointolerant. I'm just not into it, ya know?

So no it doesn't make you homophobic, it just means you aren't into it.

About the weird yaoi pairings, I find most of them really weird. Like any pairing with Ed from Fullmetal Alchemist and I'm like "You're kidding right? O_O""
Although I do enjoy a couple of slashing pairings of actual straight anime characters, but not alot of them.

No, it just means you don't like it, that's your opinion. But honestly who cares if people think you're homophobic? Who cares if you are homophobic, its just another personal preference like being homosexual and both sides just need to shut up and not antagonize the other. If you're homophobic but don't actively participate in hurtful activities towards gays who cares? Just like if you're homosexual (or in this case any sexual orientation yaoi fangirl) as long as you don't force it on people who cares?

Although not liking yaoi has absolutely nothing to do with whether you're homophobic or not, a lot of the comments against it do come off that way, so I can understand why some people would jump to conclusions after hearing/reading "ewww" over and over and over. Personally, I do love yaoi, but only some of it. Most of it is complete garbage. Same stories recycled over and over with idiotic ukes and rapist semes.
