if that was the case then we're way overdue for a population check, don't you think?

If humans in general don't get off their (our) moral high horse and start taking some serious preventative measures then the world is going to see tragedy. Most likely the entire human race won't be wiped out, but like vnkid says, the entire world will start to starve. Eventually enough people will die and there will be enough food again. I don't know if it will start happening in my life time, but I sure hope not.

I saw a documentary on the population increase in America on National Geographic I believe. Basically what happens is that since there are too many people, cities begin to build even taller buildings to accommodate everyone. Eventually there will be no such thing as a single person home. Water and food supply will dwindle and America will cut off it's exports to other countries so they can feed the people.

Taxes are raised, famine is common, riots are started, meats like cows and chickens deplete, trash builds up on the streets causing rats and disease, and all types of shit goes down.

Yet there was some good in all this. Eventually the population decreases again and the human race lives on as the greedy bastards they always were.

well i dont think thats going to happen anytime soon.. well at least i sure hope not! if so i think the only way people can prepare themselves if mentally and physically because u do have a better chance at survival if you are healthier and in better shape as well as have initiative and clear thinking.

Well, I was also going to add that it hasn't happened because we can keep up with it with medicine, etc--

But it's not hard to believe that there are areas in the world where epidemics could easily occur-- slums that are packed to the gills-- hell they don't even have to be slums necessarily, just crowded-- which also makes me think of travel immunizations/vaccinations

Now that I think about it-- it's already happening in several 3rd world countries-- I think without any humanitarian efforts a few regions would have been decimated by all these blights we've mentioned (esp. S. Africa)--

The only question is when this specifically will happen--

--when we turn our backs in order to ensure our own survival, along with other countries that provide aid

Or we could take the initiative using every branch of science to counter the problems that are said to occur with over population. Hell we may even find hospitable planets or manage to terraform them.

The world can hold plenty more people. IF we don't pollute and go through resources so freely. If the world gets overpopulated, it will get fixed by people dying off anyway; hence, survival of the fittest in a long-term perspective.

This may be important but i fail to see the relevance. What are you getting at? Are you trying to state the negatives it might cause? Are you trying to open up discussion what this means to the earth? or only putting facts out there

You said it might be important and then you say you fail to see the relevance of something that might be important-- and then you give questions about the topic which show the relevance--

What are you getting at? You seem to know what the OP is getting at but ask this anyways-- I don't see the relevance in your post
Forums are for discussion-- it should be obvious

Well...his was a genocide backed up by an ideology, not even a need for resources which would at least give a tiny bit of justification-- "helped" is such an ugly word

Nature, ultimately, will level out human populations. It has many, many tools at its disposal to do so, such as plague, a decline in resources such as clean water, land available for cultivation and grazing, or the leveling might be done from decisions made within the human population itself: a greater reliance on birth control, better educating its women (women with an education are less likely to have large numbers of childred), abortion (It becomes a more attractive option when resources and other birth control options are equally scarce) or in more extreme cases, letting people die of illnesses that once might have been controlled over a lifetime with expensive medications. This last one is something I see happening in the next fifty years. As the cost of medicine continues to climb, the sick will be evaluated and those whose care would be costly and long lasting, with no hope of recovering, will simply be allowed to die (unless, of course, the paitient is wealthy and can afford expensive treatment), as society will not have the cash to take care these sorts of things.

We are breeding too quickly as a species to provide for our numbers in a way that will keep the population healthy and we are getting rid of the natural controls that kept our numbers in check. So, logically, if we do not reduce our numbers to a level that is sustainable (and do so collectively), we will meet with the same fate that befalls any animal or plant population that exhausts the resources available to it: population decline via starvation or reduced fertility. At the moment, space travel is not an option, nor is colonization of some suitable planet. We don't have the technology to do so and since we don't want to pay taxes to develop the technology, we're stuck here for now. So escape is not an option, for us or for any of the other poor species who are stuck here on this rock with us and who are forced to deal with our ever-growing growing numbers. The population crash is coming, it's just a matter of when, not it. Whether it is fast, or slow will depend entirely on whether or not we choose to use our brains for something other than playing video games, eating ourselves into oblivion, discovering new and inventive ways to kill each other and creating more children we won't be able to feed.

don't worry the water we drink will make men and women sterile (just keep doing drugs and pissing them out)

*rolleyes at just about all the comments that were posted*

You people are never.....eeeeeeeeeever....gonna stop anyone from reproducing. At least, in any nation that isn't coummist china where they have this one child rule. Ya'll may as well just move there, the way you're talking about things like rasing some death ratio and abortion-on-demand.

Have any of you thought about some of the factors that go into this? What about rape? What about young girls that aren't even adults getting pregnant? Or in america, what about all these illegal aliens coming over here and the female ones are popping out babies left and right??

You can talk about overpopulation til you're blue in the face, because I'll keep laughing at you every single time in your lack of efforts to prevent human beings from reproducing.

Next you'll tell me there's a overpopulation problem with animals and bugs too.
