Impressions on Gosick!
Posted 1/7/11 , edited 1/7/11
Synopsis:

Gosick takes place in 1924 in a small, made-up European country of Sauville. The story centers on Kazuya Kujo, the third son of a Japanese Imperial soldier, who is a transfer student to St. Marguerite Academy, where urban legends and horror stories are all the rage. There he meets Victorica, a mysterious yet beautiful and brilliant girl who never comes to class and spends her days reading the entire content of the library or solving mysteries that even detectives can't solve. The series mostly focuses on Kazuya and Victorica getting involved in different mystery cases and their struggle to solve them, at the same time forming important bonds with different people.

Episode 1:

It has a nice start, though I was expecting the mystery to be more challenging. I'm not sure whether it's 1 episode mysterys or "arcs" of mystery, but I hope it's more than 1 episode for each case. I found the characters likable, especially Victorique, she was quite cute in both personality and looks. Well, I guess I'm probably going to keep watching this series. Though the episode wasn't great, it serves as a good introduction to the characters and the genre it is. I'm looking forward the rest of the series.

Hmm, I generally prefer cute comedies and usually stay away from serious or dark material. I like it so far. it usually takes me seeing 2-3 eps of a series before I can really decide if I'll stick with it.

Just watched it. Great animations, I usually don't go for "murder mystery" stuff, but this one seems okay. Although, the plot seems one-dimensional to me. I'll keep watching.

The first ep was pretty boring.
I went yawn just like Victorique did sometimes :P
But I`ll keep watching at least until ep 5.

It has great art/visuals, good direction, and great music. It's an immediate like for me, so I'm going to be watching this one to the end.

Episode 1.

I think we all knew that the Maid was the one who committed the murder. However it seems that this show has fantasy in it, but its definitely not going to turn out to be like a Umineko or something, which is a good thing.

I personally like Victorique. A nice cute goth-loli. Though the main character is kinda.....well....Im 80% liking him, but Im sure that will get better soon.

Though I am surprised at the flow of the first episode, the ending of the first episode shows them getting on the boat to continue their investigation on their own, which I was a little surprised at myself. Seems like this show is going to have a decent plot

Having read all the novels that have been translated into English so far I can say that the story of Gosick is a very good one and one of the best anime detective stories out there. Gosick is based loosely on Sherlock Holmes and although none of the mysteries are as difficult as those Holmes faces they are still clever and fun to read and solve, also Gosick fantastically gets across the Holmes, Watson relationship with Victorique and kazuya in other words the odd, strange genius and the normal, eager to please nice guy.

Although the first episode was a little rushed with the character introductions and they made the first murder a little to easy to solve by the way they showed it I still overall have a favourable impression of this anime adaptation so far and don't worry the mysteries get harder and better all with logical conclusions from here on in. and am looking forward to the next episode.

To all those who read this, stick with this anime a little longer I am sure you will soon see the qualities that make Gosick a fantastic story, it only gets better from here trust me! see you aboard the Queen Berry!!!

some people aren't really but there are some that refuse to watch the show just because there is no 720p rip out for it. >_> also this is as close as I could find to that handgun that was in the show that looked out of place, just look at the pat.dates.

The gun in the scene was too be to big be a baby browning or a colt .25 acp (they were the same gun, just different makers) that's the classic 'pocket pistol'

Try looking up the Mauser Hsc. the appearance and size is closer. though I'm unsure on the dates.

(edit did a bit of wikipedia-ing and found the Walther PP (precursor to Jame's Bond's PPK) made in 1929 still a little too late but close the the shape and size of the gun in the door lock scene)

Further edit: this is the Mauser 1914
