I remember that crunchy roll said that they were going to be hosting manga. They announced this all the way back in September on the artichoke and peaches show. But they have not mentioned anything sense that show. What ever happened to the idea of hosting manga on crunchy roll? It would be nice to have at least one legal place to read manga online. I am sorry if this is not a new topic and I understand if it gets deleted by mods because of that. But if anyone has information on this please share.

From what I read, crunchy isn't doing this at all. What they are doing currently is building software to host reading manga in a secure format. AKA, to stop illegal pirating of the material, where artists can distrubute their work online without it being dispersed by everyone and anyone to see it. For things like Iphone, exc, as well. As for actually hosting manga, they probably will integrate it with the site when they get the software up. However, this is probably going to take a long time. And, you are looking at a LOT of licensing rights and legal fees that need to be sorted with a lot of companies before this even ever comes to reality. The bottom line, this is going to take a long time, don't get your hopes up.

Last time I checked, CR is a privatly held company, so their records aren't open for people to view. They get most of their fundings through research from private companies for software. CR itself broke even last year, however, CR doesn't know how to market their business properly so I doubt this will ever change. This is important because it effects if they can afford to hire on additional staff to help for expansion.

Ah I see thank you for the info. I just rememberd them saying something about trying to get manga is all. I wish there was more legit manga on e-readers, but that is still a bit far off itself. The only thing I can get for the kindle is crappy yaoi porn, and some really badly drawn stuff. The one legit title is vampier hunter D.

Actually there are places to read manga online legally. This started basically in 2009. Some are listed below. The chapters get taken down when the volume is about to come out though so the volume will actually sell.

Thanks for links
Kinda difficult getting series here, but still some series i buy. Only trouble with that is REALLY bad translations sometimes, in one volume where they had a doublepage image they actually managed to put the pages on wrong side..... Rather fun reading such manga, also fun to see when they have trouble translating it into something coherent. Any link on places that sells good translated manga? Or is that best bought in stores?

Those sites ended up being made by a licensor themselves (VIZ Media). This has worked out pretty well, people can read the manga earlier, and then get the volumes to re-read the chapters. Some other licensors if I remember right had followed suit.

Crunchyroll hosted them for a while, and then shinji stopped.

likely for licensing issues or people were hacking the site perhaps and thus still getting it illegally

maybe for the same reason they were hosting anime once upon a time,

they were doing it illegally. but then, when they started to get legal anime, they should have been forced to remove manga
