I have the opening song to Neo Angelique running through my head - every
time I hear it I think the voices are so familiar but I haven't a clue who it is.
What songs can you think of done by famous artists that were for animes? Any favorites?

A lot of anime openings and endings are commissioned by professional musicians. For example, most every Naruto or Bleach theme is by a band who otherwise have had no involvement with the show (e.g. FLOW and Asian Kung-Fu Generation). Even Ayumi Hamasaki has sung songs for anime.

Shugo Chara - Buono, Guardians 4, Nana Mizuki and Shugo Chara Egg. (3 bands and Nana Mizuki is the only solo).
Vampire Knight - ON/OFF and Kanon Wakeshima
Pretear - Utada Hikaru.

The opening on series 2 of Darker Than Black is "Hero Without a Name" by the awesome An Cafe.
Gackt does a lot of theme songs for Japanese RPG like Final Fantasy.
