First, I'd like to propose that it's clear the anime team is working hard and not just taking a drawn out vacation. That should be acknowledged. Whether they're delaying the anime to give room between itself and the manga or, if you believe it, aiming also at meaningful episodes along the way - with reviews of all the characters and regular Konoha as seen through the eyes of our favourite characters! - these episodes are not poorly made. Many fans likely haven't seen the first Naruto series so this is a good chance for them to 'catch up'.

Second, as mentioned, it's nice to see Konoha as 'experienced' by regular citizens and our characters. A war that destroyed the entire village just broke out so it's only natural the main characters help out in rebuilding, and at the same time I personally enjoy watching the bonds they have with their home village. The intros (in the Shippuuden timeline) are very important to defining the setting, we're essentially getting a wider scope of the Leaf Village, its people, its scenery. Those that ignore these episodes might think twice if they watch these episodes as they recall what got them into this anime in the first place.

Third, catching up to the manga is something we all know affects the anime one way or another, so how can we be disappointed when a series chooses the 'relevant-fillers' approach? (As compared to the slow-down-to-a-crawl approach taken by One Piece, or the personally hated 'random, pointless, irrelevant fillers' inserted here and there by Bleach)

I'm one to call a spade a spade, but these fillers are good!

Having said that, I don't follow Shippuuden manga so I'm also anxiously looking forward to plot developments in the anime, I hear lots of cool things will be happening soon!

I agree with you. i have enjoyed this filler arc, though I do hope it returns to the regular story soon as well.

the idea of the filler episodes also make it so the next segment of the actual anime that is brought out is done beautifully, instead of quickly, the more fillers they use the more time the animaters have to make the good stuff and make them even more better, lately Naruto has been decreasing in quility, atleast these fillers are not randomly inserted like they are in bleach.

I've enjoyed all of the filler arcs to some degree. The twelve ninja guardian arc and the three tails arcs were so good I didn't realise they were fillers until I heard people say they were. The Forbidden Jutsu arc was more obvious but I liked how it set everything up and made Pain look more sinister when he next turned his attention to Konoha. Each filler arc might not "count" with the main story but they add further emphasis to points and that's something I've really liked.

And now, this filler arc fits right in with them. While some of its episodes seem tedious, I am pleased to notice that they are few in number. I furvently agree with you Madakka; they do bring back a lot of nostalgia (very welcome!) and it's helping me remember the old Sasuke and made me realise how much I miss that Sasuke.

It seems cruel that people are simply discarding the fillers as useless or insignificant but they have their uses and they're not just completely random stuff. My favourite episode in this arc has to be the Neji Gaiden episode. It gives you a completely different perspective on a major event that happened in Part I.

However, I do feel that the Manga now has a massive lead on the Anime and I feel it's time to rejoin the action. If they need to put another filler in, I'm sure it will be just as cool and entertaining as the previous ones have, and add extra emphasis to characters' feelings.

The wikipedia entry for season 9 says that it comes from the manga, and previous entries did say when a season was exclusive to the anime (aka filler). I haven't read the manga - did they not go back and do flashbacks at this point? If so someone should change that entry to reflect it being filler.

If I was to get into the manga, anyone know where I would need to start to pick up after the end of season 8?

I don't think anyone knows that for two simple reasons:

1. Season 8 is still going, in fact it has only just reached the halfway point
2. Season 9 hasn't started (obviously)

Sorry if I sound patronising or if it sounds like I'm putting you down because that's not my intention. However, that entry from wikipedia could be an indication that the fillers will end soon, or because it's wikipedia, someone has just put in something random. I think it's the former though.

Ya, They stop at the Pain Ark, like u all spoken for me. It going back n filling in the gaps on episode from the other characters.

What they did, like for example. There an gap in the anime where Jiraya mention to Kakashi, bout the 4th tail. How he was messing with the seal. It was suppose to have added as an side episode like these. it fill in some gaps.

I dont mind filters, I was expect an side story similar to Kakashi Gardain, and Jiraya story, I thought they was going to add the 4th Side story, explain, how he become an hokage , or 1st 2nd Hokage, how they died?

Ya, the 3rd tail was an Ark but it help fit with the tail beast, in the wiki it stated 3 4 5 6 7 was all captured, but so far we seen 1s, 2nd 3rd, 6th, 8 n Naruto. that another area to fill the gaps. but it may be too late in the time line.

That's weird, that's a listing for all of the episodes in the last bit of the episodes under the 7th intro and the episodes that are currently under the 8th intro. I guess it's structured in a different way and this is actually the 9th season now.

I think I'm starting to understand why people hate this filler arc. According to a lot of people, it has been going on for quite a while and they just want it to end so I have to say fair enough to them.

But I don't really think it's fair to just cast the fillers aside as "unimportant" as I feel that add extra emphasis (yes I did say this stuff earlier) to points. Like for example the one that stands out to me most in terms of emphasising points is the forbidden jutsu arc. It provided a lot of emphasis on Naruto's feelings towards Jiraya and that made it feel all the more sad when Naruto learned of his death. While it didn't provide flashbacks of Naruto talking about Jiraya in the filler arc (they never do in the Anime, even though I always considered it to be a build-up from the manga and flashbacks from fillers wouldn't hurt, would it?) I imagined them in my head and that was when Naruto was sitting on the bench under the lampost with the ice cream. Man, that was such a tear-jerker...
