So this is a thread because the date was arranged through Facebook? "Teen girl killed answering newspaper personal ad" would not be topic worthy?

A maximum of 10 years? The boys mind can't be that strong, get more information out of him. That girl didn't become half naked by herself. We should be looking towards something more along the lines of life behind bars.

A fourteen year old has the exact same moral reasoning and capability of a grown adult. This was down right murder, and he should be on trial as an adult.

To the best of my knowledge, the justice system seems to have failed yet again. Put me in the shoes of somebody with power in the law and the best possible justice would have been made. It irritates me seeing a bunch of goofballs following a flawed structure that shows extreme favoritism towards minors at an age where they are fully aware of what they are doing.

Note to self :

Don't go on a date with someone you've never met before eventhough you know them on facebook.

My heart goes out to the girl's family. But seriously, what was she thinking, going out on a date with someone she met online?

love?? That girl didn't even know that boy personally. I understand if that love makes people do crazy thing but I don't think you can fall in love with a complete stranger.

I was being sarcastic lol, but you never know what she could have been thinking :P.

It is murder, a ten year sentence is far too light. The boy needs a good thrashing and life in prison. It is murder, and if you let leniency affect your decision based on the murderers age, all you are doing is legimatizing criminial acts.

Oh and a question: Parents? Or did they all migrate north?

well unlike a select number of people who have posted here i guess that i have decided to comment after reading all posts.
if the kid has a history like one post said he did and he acted "calm" after admitting to comiting murder then he most likely is a sociopath and as such will not change his destructive nature.
for those of you who think that you can make reasonable decisions at the age of 14 ... no ... you just cant... at least not in the same way you would at the age of 23-25 and so forth. i remember the kind of idiot i was at 14 and the kind of idiot i was at 18 and 19 and even some what at 20. we take time to develop and mature and this i understand because a parent doesn't kill their child because they accidentally make a mess at the age of 2 nor do they kill them for making a mistake at the age of 14 becaus its not about punishing the kid its about teaching them so they can grow up like a good adult. but they sure as hell make certain that the kid gets it through his head that he screwed up if he makes the mistake of getting caught for murder. now i say getting cought because our society only acknowledges some one who is caught while "normal" adults get away with murder all the fricken time. what i mean is that the most obvious difference between adults in society and kids is adults just don't let any one find out about thier skeletons so don't even pretend your gonna be that much better than this 13 or this 14 year old just cause you have a fricken degree from Harvard and a nice job you just assume that your morale compass has a button that lets you turn it off or ignore it for no reason other than your own fricken arrogance. this society is built on the idea that you can pretend to be better than one another while having the morale integrity of a 14 year old murderer so don't even think you can judge this kid just cause he messed up in in the public's eye.
and another thing can you imagine how this would have looked had it been her who for no reason decided to just kill him? of course you can it would have been in the last page of the paper so to speak and no one would really care like they do in this story because of the view of women as being week and men being terrifying and destructive. i mean honestly I'm not saying every one has this view but can you really say they didn't at least try to us this to sell their agenda to some degree because of its emotional button pushing?
finally i can say with great remorse that i find the story to be one that is indeed sad. it is not a happy thing to hear of some one being killed and some one so young too for that matter. my heart always feels empathy and understanding towards a person who has done nothing wrong and has been harmed for simply being with the wrong person at the wrong time. i know that a lot of us will say well don't go meet strangers you don't know but the truth is that every one has to start some where and if you never reach out to any one just because you your afraid of them you will be alone forever and that i feel speaking form experience is much worse than death it is a life of sadness and solitude worse than any torture you can imagine believe me.
