Today or tomorrow im gonna buy a violin for myself, i have little experience when it comes to instruments, but I did find I have the ability to play songs by ear. The only instrument i e ever played has been the piano.

I want to know as much as i can so i can learn to play and know how to maintain my violin. I was going to get the new xbox, but since my old one still works, i decided on a different focus. So yea im pretty serious about this(lol?).

My main concern is that im somewhat ambi dextrous. And seeing as how people play the bow with the right hand and hold the string with their left im rather concerned as i am pretty sure im going to need to bow with my left. Not to forget my left hands fingers are about as nimble as a corpse ( and i write and draw with my left...).

So is there any advice for me? Also i probably wont use a tutor, i dont have time between work and sleep. I'll probably be Practicing at work.

Also- is anyone else planning to take up any instruments? Or perhaps an art of some kind?

a left handed violin? violins are symmetrical. do "left handed" violins exist? saying that sounds like what anyone would say, whether they know it exists or not :| Maybe one of those cushion things would be left handed, but the violin itself? also i don't actually know if im going to be left handed. Im just assuming I probably would be.

Well, there are left-handed pens, so why not violins?

Are you discriminatory towards violins?
Are you trying to deny them the freedom of being left handed?
Are you a racist?

You should simply try it for yourself. You can visit a music store and ask the employees for help in handling instruments and see which one you prefer.

There's also google. You can rent a violin and see which one is to your preference before you can settle with one for good and find various other information on violins.

Be very careful when tuning.....I screwed up my violin that way. See if you can find a used electronic tuner for it.
