"Schizophrenia is a mental disorder characterized by a disintegration of thought processes and of emotional responsiveness. It most commonly manifests as auditory hallucinations, paranoid or bizarre delusions, or disorganized speech and thinking... The mainstay of treatment is antipsychotic medication, which primarily works by suppressing dopamine activity. Dosages of antipsychotics are generally lower than in the early decades of their use. Psychotherapy and vocational and social rehabilitation are also important. In more serious cases—where there is risk to self and others—involuntary hospitalization may be necessary... People with schizophrenia are likely to have additional (comorbid) conditions, including major depression and anxiety disorders; the lifetime occurrence of substance abuse is almost 50%. Social problems, such as long-term unemployment, poverty and homelessness, are common..."

I don't know how useful this info is, but hopefully it helps you out.

Oh, and by the way, from people i've heard from who have had family that have been schizophrenic, it usually includes serious paranoia. Things like that might be whats keeping them from going to a doctor.

Hard antipsychotic medication, but you have to see a doctor so they can be prescribed...

Do I look like a 65 year old fucker, who's been abandoned by his family after his kids took all his money, and is now waiting for death at a fucking home?

People who have it are usually sectioned due to the risk factor to themselves and the public. They often hear voices telling them to do violent things. Its taken very seriously here in the UK and nearly 30,000 people are sectioned every year under the MHA (Mental Health Act). Hypnotics and Anti psychotics are usually prescribed.

There is no cure for schizophrenia, only treatment. I have gone to school with two schizophrenics that I knew personally - one had been abused and also had other mental issues and learning disabilities, but he was under control, just needed a loving family and some counseling. Another, you would not have know she was schizophrenic unless she told you, she had, as far as I know, no other mental or physical conditions.

Outside of school, I've worked at a group home for the traumatically brain injured, many of whom were "schizo-affective" but not schizophrenic.

There is no way to diagnose a family member or friend who won't go to the doctor, but if you feel that they may be a harm to themself or anyone else, I know many, if not all, states have involuntary hospitalizations laws/procedures.

I wish I had more information. Schizophrenia is tough. A lot of people who have serious mental illness that doesn't get diagnosed when they are a minor and their parents can force them to do this and that, have a high risk of not getting treated. I think I read that it's estimated that 70% of homeless people are mentally ill, although I don't know if that statistic is accurate - I have also read that many of those homeless people who are mentally ill are schizophrenic.

So do some research, talk to a doctor or psychologist, and try and get some help for the person you care about that may or may not have schizophrenia. Just know that you might not be able to get them help, depending on where you live.

hi i think hallucinations and extreme paranoia are two major symptoms. there are other things that can make people worried about their mental state such as compulsive obessive thougts (where you cant stop thinking something). A lot of mental health issues are brought on by depression and anxiety of which there can be many causes. I think having someone to talk to about it can be a big help, there is quite a lot of mental health issues in my family so if you need someone to talk to about it feel free to message me

no...I feel sorry for people who suffers from stuff like this...people like that would give up anything to be a midget or something

trust me i have dwarfism I'm not a midget I'm a little person and that word is so over used and i would rather be short then crazy. also we little people suffer just as much as the mentally ill because most of the time dwarfism comes with a hand full of other serious mental and physical birth defects which will really change how you live just like being mentally ill does.
