Synopsis
The story depicts a young boy named Shuuichi Nitori who wants to be a girl, and his friend Yoshino Takatsuki, a girl who wants to be a boy. The series deals with issues such as transsexuality, gender identity, and the beginning of puberty.

So you got to have an open mind.

I like it, it`s good, down to earth and "real".
It`s nice to watch a laid back, slow paced anime sometimes too.
The manga is by the lady who made/makes Aoi Hana, so the art stle is the same in this one as that one.

(Gonna be fun following this topic :P)

Can`t edit the title so I`ll just post the english title of the anime here: Wandering Son
That way it`ll show up in search.

The manga is a classic. The anime is a great treat expanding upon it with a subtle elegance rarely seen.

I think it's a beautifully done series and very well written.

It is likely to upset some people but despite that I hope a lot of folks give it a try and keep an open mind.

I think this may be a dupe. I seem to recall another thread on this subject with a lot more rage by the manga fans that we appear to have started 40 chapters in.

I had that feeling too, so I just did a quick search of the English name and found the original. It's just a review of the first episode though, so I don't believe this thread will be considered a dupe.

Link for those who want to know the thread: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-689553/wandering-son-episode-1-review

I'll just copy-pasta my post on that thread for discussion purposes

Copy-pasta from my ANN forum post:

Haven't found anything confusing yet, but I heard people complain about the way it started (compressing 40 manga chapters into 15 minutes.) Though I haven't read the manga, I actually like this start.

Episode 1:

I'm really loving this atm, I already sense a lot of drama going on and I can see the troubles the characters are facing. The music was great, giving off a calm mood to the viewers. And I really like how each character interacts so far, mainly the dialogue between the friends. I found the self introduction scene to be the most powerful part of the episode, revealing the tension between the characters. I'm going to say this probably has the best start out of all the Winter 2011 animes that aired so far.

I did a search for the japanese title, but couldn`t find it.
Most people won`t search by Wandring Son, but the japanese title.

But this and that topic is abit diffrent
"wandering son episode 1 review "
As in, just discuss ep 1, not the whole series :P
So this is not a duplicate, acoriding to the rules here on CR, loop hole(or something hehe).

Fair enough... the other thread was three pages of whining about "Why'd they skip 40 chapters?" It's not like I really miss it.

Well I just saw episode 2 which clarified a lot of things. I do like this anime a lot so far!

Absolutely LOVE this anime - already pre-ordered the manga for when its finally released this May!!!
The story is really interesting and the artwork is beautiful - I only wish it had adapted the earlier parts, but thankfully you can access information of these prior events.

I really like the character Saori Chiba!!! her personally matches mine closely
