What is your favorite place to go in Japan?

Kyoto was wonderfully sublime. The @home maid cafe was memorably cute. Climbing Mt Fuji from the Sengen Jinja at the base was and awesome experience. Too many places I like to name just one favorite...

Having been there a couple of times already, at this point, if I had only 48 hours, I'd like a nice room at a fancy ryokan with my wife, with a private rotenburo and an awesome view, and a wonderful multi-course in-room kaiseki ryouri dinner spread. Maybe in Hokkaido somewhere...

Mount Fuji is so over done. If you're in the Osaka area Mount Koya is a fantastic train ride. Well, as long as traveling on the edge of a cliff doesn't scare you.

Aokigahara, the Ancient Japanese Forest at the foot of Mt. Fuji, said to house the God of Suicide, Ubasute-Yama. In their homage to this most powerful diety, the high priest of the temple would take the sacred wakizashi, the sacred ritual blade of the Shinto Religion, and hurl it deep into the forest's lake, where, it is said, this God dwells. As per many Japanese Holy Sites, visitors are encouraged to leave charms upon the temple grounds, in the form of a noose attached to their neck and to a tree, usually suspending them, in hopes of purifying their spirit before entering Samsara. This ancient Japanese Custom, I am told, is preserved to the present day.

Japan is a big country, what part are you planning on visiting. 48 hours is also a very very brief trip.

It's not that big when you're riding on the Shinkansen.
