Sleazy, dity, nasty and weird? Yeah, Kabukichou.

And if this is your first time in Japan I suggest staying the hell out of there. Seriously, you'll get robbed.

When you're 6500 miles from home see how fun that is.

Definitely go to Kyoto. There are a lot of temples there, a castle, and even an anime museum. The bus system there is pretty amazing too. You can get a day pass for 500 yen, which I would recommend if you plan on using the bus 3+ times during the day.

Nara is also a great place to see. It's just about 30 minutes - 1 hour away by train and has a giant temple surrounded by psychotic deer. I almost had a hole bit in my pants by those deer and they will chase anyone down who has food.

Odawara has an interesting castle which is about a 5-10 minute walk away from the JR train station (there are signs that point you in the direction) but, it's not very spectacular.

Yokohama is also a place to visit. There are some great ramen shops there and it has a pretty nice amusement park right next to Tokyo Bay. Sometimes there are even some pretty amazing street performers close to the amusement park at night.

In Tokyo I've been to Akihabara, Tokyo (station), Shibuya, Harajuku, and Shinjuki. They're all great places. Word of advice though is to avoid Tokyo Tower. It's a tourist trap for the most part. The view is nice, but I've heard from other people that you could find better views of Tokyo for free. Also the skytree might be nearing completion, although I haven't really read up on it lately. Just outside of Tokyo is Mitaka which is where the Ghibli museum is. That's a fun sight to see as well, but you need to call ahead and reserve a ticket, there is absolutely no walk-ins allowed.

Finally, there is a nice little resort town that Japanese people like to take a day trip to called Enoshima which is relatively close to Fujisawa station. It's really cool, it has caves, temples, shops, a small tower at the top, and nice beaches. You'll get some strange looks every now and then if you're a foreigner though.

Skytree opens next month.

People already hate it.

And Tokyo Tower is only 850 yen or about $10 with today's crappy exchange rate, by comparison it's $22 to go to the top of the Empire State Building.
