Not all dubs suck, I watched the eng dub version of Samurai Champloo and School Rumble Season 1 and 2 and they were good, Soul Eater eng dub was ok. I prefer watching anime with subs but i tend to watch both eng dub and sub version just to compare the two.

Oh god hell no. That is all i have to say about on this subject. Please no. leave a great anime alone. Please don't dub it with horrible acting, and sound voices. Please Funi do not dub this series.

Funimation has nothing to do with K-on!. It is licensed by Bandai, and I believe the dubbing is being handled by Bang Zoom Entertainment.

Any person saying the English versions are always horrible and the Japanese versions are the way to go are dementedly delusional jack---es in a nicely put manner, They should know deep down that their holier than thou Japanese subs can be crappy too. Need I remind anyone how I feel about Takahiro Sakurai doing a s--- job, to put it nicely, as the 2001 version of Cyborg 009?

The problem is not the dubbing in this case. It's the crude americanization of a beloved japanese anime. Its like naruto being on disney channel, PURELY DISGUSTING AND RIDICULOUS. It's hard having to see one of your favorites become dubbed because many retarded noobs think they are the VERY FIRST to discover the shit. ALSO, I hate america and its stupidity. So english = IFKINGHATEYOU. Why don't all you dub lovers get of your lazy asses and actually try to LEARN japanese. It's really not that hard, I got the just of it in a matter of months.

Could of not said it better then myself. Also, in some case their are good dubs out their, but in other cases they are just right down horrible. oh sorry that i said Funi was doing the dub. I did not read the whole first post just skimmed through it. I think that funi should just do dub from now on, because this one looks like a fail festival too me. So much fail in this dub series.

That's a pretty general statement to state ALL dubs aren't good.

Although a majority of the anime that gets dubbed into english isn't usually up to par with it's Japanese counterpart there are some cases when the english dub is subpar or better than the Japanese.

Ever hear of an anime called.. FLCL?

But your forgetting the sub lovers who first watched the subs and declare Japan the best place on Earth and add "kawaii"s, "desu"s, and honorifics to everything.

And the only americanization I recall was Sailor Moon and Pokemon dubs, but then again, those dubs are bad.

But... aren't you typing in english? D:

I don't hate dubs, but that doesn't mean I'll watch in dubs all the time, I prefer subs out of personal opinion only.

I do have to admit that some actors put up a fine enough voice, let it be Japanese or English.

But what slighty annoys me, but something I don't really care about, is the way they pronounce the Japanese surnames and/or Japanese given names.

I wonder how they'll (I'm talking about K-ON) manage to voice properly in the anime if they can't pronounce fast enough, but trailer is trailer.. I'll find out in the released Episodes. I do, though, like the English voices of old anime - like Ranma 1/2 and Slayers.

The language isn't what matters in most cases, but how well they can act out the personality of the person they're voicing, if they can't they just have to practice more. Even making a Voice Actor School to let them practice would be great - most likely there are schools like that already.

I personally dislike the K-On! english dubs they don't represent the characters well enough but thats based on a trailer thats only a couple minutes long. Also i'm a huge fan of some of the voice actresses especially Toyosaki Aki(Hirasawa Yui) and Hikasa Yoko(Akiyama Mio). Although many of us dislike dubs we should note that many people do actually only watch animes with dubs.

I'm not a huge fan of dubs, although to some extent they may be decent to watch, sometimes fitting.
But for the majority of the dubs I have seen, the lack of character within the dub voices is what gets to me, the fact that their portrayal of the character is so unfitting to the anime. Some lack the enthusiasm, some lack the energy, others are just mono-toned and some voices just don't convey the attitude of the character.

I am sorry if I mislead but I am in no way defending subtitled anime over dubbed. Pure and raw is what I like and believe is best. There is nothing wrong with adding "kawaii" or "desu" to words but I find it to be odd and slightly nerdy.

There is a wide range of americanization in other ways, such as product advertising and the such (which I don't blame them they need to sell shit), that ends up making things burnt out and almost shunned by the non-otaku crowd.

Just because I type and speak in english doesn't mean I love it. Also, I doubt I would get my point across to people who hate subtitles and prefer english dubs if I typed all in japanese. Thank you for pointing it out though.

Heck, another reason I the favored English 009 dub was Kana Ueda sounded beyond too girly for the psychic Russian baby. 002, on the other hand, I liked in both versions.
