I'm not sure how many of you here are tech savvy but if you haven't heard or unaware Bell Canada is trying to impose low usage caps and high over charge rates for using the internet on a monthly basis.

They Want to limit our usage to 25 gigs of data(about 25 hours worth of SD viewing) and then charge us $2/gig over that 25 gigs(up to $60) then if you go over 300gigs its $1.00/gig after

I currently Use Teksavvy an independent Internet Service provider. I pay 31.99+tax for a 5Mb/s with 200gig usage if these new billing methods pass my bill for the internet will be over $100 for the same service.

Below is a link to a compilation of articles regarding Usage Based Billing

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r25429149-UBB-articles-and-video-compilation-thread

How Does this Affect CR, This will deter Canadian customers from getting premium membership as they will get double charged for your services.

Bell, Rogers, Shaw don't want services like CR or Netflix to be cheaply available to us they want us to keep paying for Cable/Satellite TV.

How to Fight it?

although i am not Canadian the same thing is going to happen here in the states so i wish you all the best. what people don't understand by limiting bandwidth like this it makes people go back to illegal methods with torrents and direct downloads because once download you can view it as many times as you want to, over and over again. If you stream you have to use the same amount a chunk of your bandwidth every time you re-watch an episode which is bull crap. I really do wish I could help you guys.

Yeah I heard about this from my teacher today. It's unlikely tho. Are you really going to piss off all your customers? But nevertheless it's important it doesn't happen.

It is likely though if all the Internet companies work together though to drive the prices up:P

Not necessarily. Many protests have redone things in the past. This shouldn't be different if it's the case that this happens. We should be successful if it happens because this effects everything on the net. Less people watching youtube, less people playing game on xbox live, etc.

lol well i havent yet signed up but honestly this is the first time i've seen this :S i think it would be a really bad move for shaw bell and rogers to make since it would definitely cost them more in the long term that what their currently dealing with on low cable tv deals.

signed now though :p however in most cases i see this as just how times are changing and how its all about money if there was good programming on tv i might be willing to re hook up my satellite dish lol since thats how i was watching tv 5yrs ago
