Why do most of us tend to be ignorant of the problems/issues that are in front of us?

I wonder why most of us tend to be ignorant of the current issues of society?Poverty, racial discrimination, human trafficking, prostitution, environmental problems, political issues.Even though it's being reported on the news, there are still a lot of us who don't have a care in the world and live their happy-go-lucky lives thinking that it's not their problem and they probably won't be affected by it. The world is getting worse and worse everyday. It's fine to live life and have fun but to just ignore everything that's happening around u that could probably have an impact in your lives?Poverty, rape, murder, violence, kidnappings, massacres, terrorism, global warming. Every single one of these is probably on the news every now and then. I hear a lot of people say, "I don't care about those bullshit, it probably won't affect me." Sometimes I get irritated at those people who think that all of those issues are "bullshit."

~Well I don't think that's entirely true...

People are loathe to step up and do anything about problems since it requires effort and courage. Some even prefer the ugliness of society's decay over one where everything seems to be alright.

I don't think those issues are bullshit and I know they'll someday get to me.
I really don't care, lol. No matter how you (topic starter) label me.

Violence is inevitable. Those terrorists or rapists have their own mind,
you can't just tell them to stop what they are doing.
They also have their reasons too, no matter how unacceptable it might be.

I'm also not one to parade in the streets and protest till I die from
the smelly sweat of the people around me.
Too lazy for that too.

simple answer? It's easier to pretend you don't seem them, than to acknowledge them. Sadly there are too many people who choose to not see.

Indifference?

Ignorance is bliss.

I'd rather not know that this world is probably in big trouble.

I agree with Rina-San, ignorance is bliss.

I do keep up to date on some issues via Change.org (Education, Women's Rights, Gay Rights, Human Rights, Health, Poverty, Human Trafficking, Sustainability, Immigrant Issues, and I forget what else...) and they have a section called "Victories" that tends to put me in a good mood. I like it. You can sign petitions, and write emails, letters, and make phone calls. Issues get spread via Facebook, email, word of mouth, and other social networking websites and methods, and the more people know, the bigger the fuss they make, and the more likely something is to change.

The world is a pretty dark, negative place with a lot of bad news. I don't blame people for wanting to focus on the positive and the things they feel they can change. I suggest people stay up to date with news in their state/province or if they live in a smaller country, their entire country, and their local area, as opposed to the whole world... in your area, you can make a difference for certain.
I think that's plenty good enough, to vote on state issues, to vote in national issues, to volunteer, and to keep up to date on the things that you have some way of fixing/making better, otherwise if you focus on everything all over the world, you might end up a bit depressed, pessimistic, and/or cynical.

SImple answer.
It is easier to close your eyes, cover your ears and pretend all is good in the world. Then to do anything with said problems.
