Would you buy this on DVD?
|
so, just finished watching all the episodes on here, and I have to say I ended up liking it. But, it made me curious, how many people would actually buy this on DVD if it was available? I think it'd be cool if there was an English dub of this, wonder who they would get to play Panty and Stocking? XD (the picture is drawn by Rusky Boz in Deviantart. http://rusky-boz.deviantart.com/art/Panty-and-Stocking-RukiHime-187253449) |

I would if it were a collected release and not this 3 episodes on a 50 dollar BluRay nonsense, thus why I never buy Anime DVDs/BluRays.

If it gets released at a sensible price I'd almost certainly buy it

I would buy it but I don't think I would want it dubbed. Sure, trying to read the subtitles while watching gets distracting but I just can't imagine them speaking english

Quick fire comedy really needs to be dubbed. I'd enjoy the hell out of this if it had some decent voice acting. Besides, reading jokes really doesn't hit the same timing buttons as hearing puns about shit and premature ejaculation.

I'd buy it in a heart beat. I already am buying it actually.
An English dub could be good, but every English dub could be good. I'd hate to hear what they will do to Garterbelt. I know he's gay but he doesn't sound gay. The English dub would probably make him sound flaming like how they somehow thought Aizen from Bleach should sound like an angsty homosexual when done in English. I think the females would probably turn out ok though. I think most female voices go over pretty well as long as they aren't the super shy japanese girl voice, which this show doesn't have. ddhboy wrote: I would if it were a collected release and not this 3 episodes on a 50 dollar BluRay nonsense, thus why I never buy Anime DVDs/BluRays. That's only Japanese prices and they charge that much because the Japanese market is the one responsible for keeping the industry afloat. I'd also point out that you've been under a rock for the past decade if you think that's the pricing for US releases. They haven't released an OVA for anyone to own yet. They haven't even announced one. |

It appears next year everyone (at least in the U.S. & Canada) that stated they would buy will have the chance to prove they meant what they said:
Funimation licenses Panty and Stocking |

Hell no. This was by far one of the worst thing Gainax has made.
Now listen. I had nothing against the premise of this anime, and looking at the title alone I knew I was in for a guilty pleasure similar to what you'd find on Comedy Central or Adult Swim. Something to watch for the shits and giggles, if you will. Unfortunately, I got plenty of shit and no giggles. I wasn't expecting in-depth characters, but considering Garterbelt was relatively substantial, I had to wonder why they didn't focus on characterizing the cast members this show actually focused on; they're supposed to be our source of laughs, so they better have a bit of things to play off of. Unfortunately, the only notable facet of both of them is their behavior of having sex and eating candy, and it's not even varied. Panty's desire for sex leads to nothing but more sex, and Stocking's desire to eat candy leads to nothing but eating more candy. That's it. No variation, and nothing else to them either. But sure, even if the characters are complete crap (sometimes literally), at least the scenarios themselves could be funny, right? Unfortunately, this anime still misses the mark on that. The biggest problem with Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is its fascination with the humor it attempts to convey to a fault. All too often it's absolutely absurd to the point where it's impossible to find any relatable context. Ironically, it's so concerned with being outrageous that it actually ends up becoming predictable; IE, the danger of desensitization. When I actually knew that Brief's lower extremities were going to be like that before the scene even occurred, for example, it just shows how mundane the inanity becomes through overexposure. At any rate, this is hardly the first show to portray this sort of comedy, and quite far from the best. It certainly has a lot of style, but it's almost funny how badly other works have managed to beat it at its own game. And that, perhaps, is the greatest joke Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt has ever produced. |

Hmmm probably. It'd be an interesting add to my collection.
