OHH shit i hate history. i even wrote a poem about it in english class
"I hate history.
it puts me in misory.
every time the bell rings
i can hear hell sing
my book is a reaper
like hells gate keeper
every time i get out it pulls me in and then shouts.
I cant brake free from this misory
it has me wound up so tight i cant brake free
or put up a fight.
im so helpless it leaves me renderless to its evil power
it haunts me in the shower.
its there when im next to my wife and itll be there for the rest of my life. / Any way thats how much i hate history by Malik Ibrahim

I think I have a love-hate relationship with Biology. I find everything about it immensely fascinating, yet the (crazy) amount of material I've had to memorise for all the Biology courses I've taken have driven me up the wall countless times.

But really, there's been a point when every subject seemed to suck for me.

SOCIAL STUDIES!!!
it has no purpose. the state doesnt even test us on this.
IT's the PAST I have NO INTEREST of something that has happened in the past if it does not involve me.

The past has everything to do with you, and fyi, social studies deals with culture and societies, which can be the present or past...

However if you stay an ignorant, brainwashed, and 'obedient citizen', then you will never notice a difference, because when something from history effects your lifestyle for good or bad, you won't be smart enough to notice it anyways.

And yet if it were not for history that poem wouldn't exist. How Ironic on multiple levels.

let me guess acording to your Answers ur major is history or something well any way its not history that makes people smarter its travel if peopel taveled more to other countries they would understand what the world is like and they wouldnt be stuck thinking what the government wants them to think. see how the libian gov and the egiption gov and the lebnanion gov and the other arab countries are overthrowing there government well most amereicans see it as ohh so what its a bunch of rebels tryin to take a gov they dont see people tryin to live cuz they need more money than they can make. In eygept the pool oy is an electrical engineer and thr garbage man is mechanical engineer but the meadia dosnt say things like that and thats y i think peopel should travel so they can see outside there so perfect life.

Nope, I major in English. However an objective study of the history that you want to learn will show you many things about the world in a very similar way that traveling does. This is because traveling is a journey and history in the making, while history is a recording of said events that are encountered in ones journey. History shows us the reasons that things are the way they are today. For starters, I would feel like a fool If I didn't know about the wright brothers, and it would almost be putting their ingenuity to vain.

Getting into the gritty specifics like exact dates is a different story, and is not entirely necessary unless you plan to become a Historian. However, you will notice that you do look up history for many reasons. Say you want to go to japan but you don't know about their laws, or what they accept culturally.

Well, you may want to briefly study on what they accept and what they don't, plus get a quick overview of some laws. You would be surprised how much trouble you can get into while inside another country, just by acting like you do in your home country. Remember, you don't have to do it, nobody is making you, but I will tell you it can be used as a very useful tool for your own benefit. Knowledge really is power. It can be hard to survive without this knowledge especially if you want to travel.

I suppose history opens up a little later on in life, when you begin to realize that no institution like school can make you learn history, or for that matter no school has any bearing on what history is. In fact, school only serves to provide you a bias perspective on history that promotes an inflated sense of nationalism. Real history is something that is uninhibited by any institution. When I was in middle school, I hated history as well, because I felt that it was something I was forced into. This is not the case later on, and no such rules apply in the greater sense of the adult world which you will soon be entering.

And yes, I completely agree. If people traveled to learn for themselves what is out there instead of relying so dependently on media, many of the cultural stereotypes would be reduced.

FYI - You seem a lot smarter than I was when I was at your age. When I was 13, I didn't care at all about what was going on in the world around me. The only real world events I knew about besides the selective teaching of schools were the events of 9/11 which happened when I was around 11.
