People will see your good side, so it can only make things better.

It really depends on who I made a bad impression on (teacher, potential/current employer, fellow students, a potential boyfriend or girlfriend) and how.

I made a bit of a bad impression on a professor with latework, but I had explained to her BEFORE it was due, that I was having trouble with obtaining my lab CD, and upon obtaining it, having trouble using it and understanding how to do the labs. This went on for a while, but I kept her updated. In my stress and overwork, I missed a non-lab assignment, so I had to turn in THAT late too! But I stayed in contact with her, apologized, explained my situation to her and that I do care about my schooling, and thanked her for her patience, understanding, and help.

No matter how hard you try to fix something, you'll always be able to see the cracks.

Try your best, and for some stubborn people that just isn't enough, but pat yourself on the back for going for it anyway.

I read somewhere that it takes 8 good impressions to make up for 1 bad impression.

If you're honest in reconciliation, then you can turn a bad impression or even insulting impression to one of mere clumsiness or misunderstanding, depending on the original impression. From there, you can even become friends, but it depends on the individual and their open-mindedness regarding others. Some people stick with first impressions and base all interaction from then, so in those cases, it might not matter what you do. In those cases, I like to think that they're more superficial than I'd care to be, so at that point I don't say anything and avoid them.

Really? There are actually people who care about what others think of them?
