Just so ticked off and feel so violated that I just had to vent and share this.
I got a call today from my husband when he got home to let me know that our home had been broken into. The sliding glass door had been shattered and glass was everywhere. The thieves had rummaged through our house, pulling things out from everywhere.
We lost about $20k worth of items that we had bought within the last 7 years of our married life together...things we can't go out an easily replace.
The randomness of what was taken baffles me as well. They took our 46" LCD flat screen and playstation, but left our 24" and 32" monitors and desktop computers. They stole the laptop that was packed in a suitcase from a trip this past weekend, but left the other laptop that was in a laptop bag next to my desk that they riffled through. They stole all my husbands camera equipment - 4 Nikon cameras and a half dozen lenses...but they left all of my jewelry, except my engagement ring. In fact, they seemed disgusted with my pearls and had tossed them across the bedroom.
They opened all the dresser drawers upstairs, but looked through none of the cupboards or the china hutch. They stole a bass guitar and 6 string, but left the keyboard, drums and the rest of the recording studio equipment.
And this was all done in broad daylight before 11am - from the tire tracks that were left, we determined they were parked in the back of our house, and drove through several yards...and noone noticed.

So after sharing all of this and relieving a little pent up frustration, I have to go clean up glass and the dust from the police where they were searching for fingerprints.

My question, have you ever had a similiar experience? How does this make you feel and how did you deal with it?
At the moment, I feel disgusted and want to disinfect anything I think the thieves might have touched. And I probably won't sleep this evening...And I am so angry that I would kill them if they came back, really I would, and I am not a violent person. It scares me that I feel that way, and it scares me more that the police said they may come back to get what they couldn't take today.

The thief is probably somebody who has been inside your house or somebody you know since they only took things that's really important to you. I'm not suggesting it's somebody you know but this happened to my family back when I was 8 or so.

Yes the police are exploring that option. Although they said by the looks of things that the people that did this probably were systematic and just went through everything, picking and choosing what they thought would sell the fastest and cause them the least hassle in doing so.

Well I do hope they find fingerprints because that is some messed up stuff, its so hard to make money these days with the unemployment rate up to 9.4% or so and the US on the verge of inflation.

Like Loofie7 stated it was probably someone you know. They know your habits and when you are leaving and entering your home. You probably invited them in and they checked out the place and all the things you had. You should consider yourself lucky you are alive and no one was home, home invasions normally end up violent.

A few years back my mother had a party at her home and she invited friends and family over. Everything was going fine and people were having a great time, we were pretty distracted making sure the food was prepared. The next day I noticed that a gold bracelet was missing and until this day we still do not know who took it.

Yea ive been stolen from before. Not to this extent though, very far from this. When i was at the rec center in 9th grade my psp and 25 dollars were stolen from me, I just felt like crying. lol this seems funny compared to your story though.

When I first moved to California was the first time i got robbed, this girl asked to use my mobile and ran off with it once i handed it to her. The second time was about 2 months ago, someone had broken into my new apartment, they stole all my computers and monitors(I have a ton of them because I'm a programmer). It feels horrible to have someone do stuff like that too you, hopefully they catch your thieves and bring justice to you and your family.

a co-worker of my dad had his house burglarized in the same manner as you describe and was later caught. the thief was one of the neighbors. sometimes it can't be helped.

Yes. Someone stole my bike, and then returned it three days later with the top tube (part of the frame) sawn apart. The tyres were slashed, too.

Had a break in in my moms house 10 years ago.
Lost my passport, my entire cd collection (like 500 of them!) my laptop and my vintage 1980's rayban pilots.
+ maybe 3-400 dollars in cash from my desktop for my vacation the weekend after.

What hurt the most was the raybans..
Everything happened while I slept.

My best friend who became addicted to drugs stole and pawned my phone to a fucking Pawnshop for more drugs.
I didn't got it back but I swear I'll beat the fuck out of him if he ever shows his face in front of me.
