We got to see two of the three guys in handcuffs today, and more of our items returned, including 2 of the 7 stolen firearms. We are so very thankful that we were one of the lucky few to actually be getting justice - and our stuff back.
Hopefully they will get the third guy tomorrow, and will have more info on the rest of our items by then as well!

It's best to keep some music playing a little loud in a playlist (enough to be heard, but not get the neighbors in a riot). That way people will always think someones inside. Google "violent rap music" and get some of those. They'll think twice about messing with the bad ass who listens to that stuff let alone enter your abode. And your profile says you don't like rap. It may just save your possessions.

I know, electricity, or it's either bullet proof windows.

I don't think the music would have hindered them. They were watching the house and knew that my husband and I were the only ones that live there. They waited until I left for work and then broke in (and I mean directly after, from what the old man across the street said, they didn't even wait until I was gone 15 mins.).
Would it deter someone in the future? Eh, maybe. I think we are thinking about the loud noisy things that are like 90 decibels you put on your windows...either that, or there is a wireless alarm system out now that you can program to dial you and the police if there is a breakin. It has motion sensors in the house and sensors for the windows and doors. Pretty neat.

And we were happy to hear that the third guy was arrested too. They were arraigned two days ago and the court date is set for March 24th. The police did not get any of our stolen cameras back yet, or the other five firearms. However, when these guys are convicted they will be ordered to pay us restitution (like we will really see any of that, but anyways). I guess we still have the best case scenario, that we even got some of our stuff back.
I just don't like how these guys still may have our guns stashed somewhere and now they are out on bail...makes me a little nervous.

Try rabid guard dogs. On second thoughts they might munch on a persons face when their sleeping. Alarm system is one time purchase and will be a good deterrent once it starts sounding, then Chuck Norris will come and save the day.

I'm glad to hear that you got most of your things back. There's an awful lot of cases of theft in which the culprits are never apprehended, so it always feels good to read of thieves being caught.
Being a victim of theft is terrible, especially if you're powerless to do anything about it.
I've only ever had minor things stolen from me (60GB JP PS3 by a drug addicted family member and a package with Doujinshi that the mailmen prudently stuffed into my mailbox in the dormitory, accessible for anyone), and I didn't get anything back in both cases, but there hasn't been a single experience in my life that has felt so infuriatingly unfair.

I really, really loathe thieves. Having things stolen from you that you worked for just hurts. At least the guy that sold my Playstation was caught and, as luck would have it, was on probation as well. In both cases I got the money back and found the same Playstation 3 model again, but I have yet to find all of the stolen Doujinshi again, such a bother.

3 months ago, I actually saw my friend steal 40 bucks from me in the park next to our school, but he denies he ever did it. But he's a total loser, he dropped out of middle school and literally the only thing I hear come out of his mouth now is about weed. So basically I've left him behind.

Sorry, OP, that sucks some major donkey balls.

Last year, someone tried breaking into our house at night, and they cut down the fence connecting our house and the neighbor's house so they had easy access to both houses. But on that night, I was on the computer, right next to the window they were on the opposite side of.. It was too dark to see anything, but I heard footsteps on the grass and the fence jingling spastically. The footsteps stopped outside my window at about 2am; I was kinda scared, and I tried closing the shades, but they were broken.. I thought nothing of it after a while because the noise stopped for about an hour and a half. And then they started moving again, jumped over the adjacent, unbroken fence, and walked through the backyard. The footsteps faded.

I thought it was just an animal, but then a week later, my mum found the broken fence and reported it to the police. Then, a month later, our car, and the neighbors' cars were broken into. We got some stuff stolen. 2 months after that, they broke into the neighbor's house, currently inhabitated by a really old lady, and stole all her jewelry. They came in through the WINDOW, when she was SLEEPING.
