Just so ticked off and feel so violated that I just had to vent and share this.
I got a call today from my husband when he got home to let me know that our home had been broken into. The sliding glass door had been shattered and glass was everywhere. The thieves had rummaged through our house, pulling things out from everywhere.
We lost about $20k worth of items that we had bought within the last 7 years of our married life together...things we can't go out an easily replace.
The randomness of what was taken baffles me as well. They took our 46" LCD flat screen and playstation, but left our 24" and 32" monitors and desktop computers. They stole the laptop that was packed in a suitcase from a trip this past weekend, but left the other laptop that was in a laptop bag next to my desk that they riffled through. They stole all my husbands camera equipment - 4 Nikon cameras and a half dozen lenses...but they left all of my jewelry, except my engagement ring. In fact, they seemed disgusted with my pearls and had tossed them across the bedroom.
They opened all the dresser drawers upstairs, but looked through none of the cupboards or the china hutch. They stole a bass guitar and 6 string, but left the keyboard, drums and the rest of the recording studio equipment.
And this was all done in broad daylight before 11am - from the tire tracks that were left, we determined they were parked in the back of our house, and drove through several yards...and noone noticed.

So after sharing all of this and relieving a little pent up frustration, I have to go clean up glass and the dust from the police where they were searching for fingerprints.

My question, have you ever had a similiar experience? How does this make you feel and how did you deal with it?
At the moment, I feel disgusted and want to disinfect anything I think the thieves might have touched. And I probably won't sleep this evening...And I am so angry that I would kill them if they came back, really I would, and I am not a violent person. It scares me that I feel that way, and it scares me more that the police said they may come back to get what they couldn't take today.

Sorry to hear about that. I cannot say I have been in the same/similar situation considering my house has security cameras installed almost everywhere and we have security guards at every door and area.

I've been stolen from a number of times, actually. I seem to have bad luck in that regard. >_>

First time was when I was really little. I don't remember it well anymore. I just remember me and my family had been out somewhere one night and when we came home, our sliding glass door had been broken into. They didn't take alot, from what I remember, but it prompted us to get a dog.

Next time was in 9th grade, I think. I used to have to ride my bike from my mom's house to my dad's house, and then take the school bus to school from there. I had to leave really early, when it was still dark out, and at the time, I used alot of back roads to get there. One day, while I was riding, a car pulled up alongside me and asked for directions. I answered them, and then they asked if I had any money I could lend them. I told them no. They pulled a gun out and asked "Do you have any money now?". I gave them the twenty bucks I had just gotten that was supposed to be lunch money for the next two weeks, and then they pulled away. -_-

Also got robbed while at work, once. Though, nothing along the nature of the above. One year, during Christmas, there was a group going around sneaking into my store's breakroom and breaking into lockers. One day they went into mine and stole my Zune. Pissed me off, but I probably loss less then everyone else hit that day, so I wasn't super upset.

Last time was a couple of years ago. before I got my car, I had to walk to work everyday. One day, at about 7 in the morning [it was light out, though] I was walking by a park, listening to music, when I group of guys approached me and started trying to talk to me. I pretended to not hear them and listen to my music, but they continued until one stepped in front of me. When I asked what they wanted, they said they wanted my MP3 player and whatever cash I had on me. I told them to fuck off. They then tackled me to the ground and threatened to beat the crap out of me, so I threw them my wallet. It didn't have anything in it anyways, so what did I care? When they tried to take my MP3 Player, though [a new Zune I had bought to replace the first one that had been stolen] I decided I had had enough and fought them off before taking off and calling the cops. People tell me I was lucky.

Every piece of candy I've ever left in front of a fat person has been eaten. I can share your sentiments.

Before my dad died he gave me and my sisters a gold necklace with our name. Unfortunately someone recently stole the last gift my dad gave me. I even know the guy who stole it; he was my mom’s best friend son. I keep the anger I felt towards him to myself but I don’t know if I can ever forgive him. He stole something very precious to me that he can’t ever replace.
