I don't see why they would be going downhill yet. I wish I could subscribe to it though

I buy this magazine every month without fail (can't subscribe in the UK) - I hate how Yu-Gi-Oh oriented it has become again (can't stand the francise). But It still the best magazine at the moment and I love reading Naruto & One Piece very close to Japan without using scans. I wish Bleach would do a catch-up like Naruto and One Piece have and get nearer to the japanese release). Psyren is quite interesting

I haven't really read any latest issues. Can't get a subscription from where I live. But yeah I heard it's kind of getting boring because of that "animes should be banned coz it sort of suggests sex" thing or whatever.

That is the destiny of print media. It had a good half a millennium run.

Its not going down hill quite yet , but you bet when naruto ends (which may be soon) , one piece, or bleach. that sales of shonen jump are going to plument the day that happens unless they start putting more series in there. Viz is depending on the Big 3 way to much to hold up the whole shonen jump magazine and its going to backfire on them unless then have a new foundation settled before it happens

Shonen Jump isn't going to go "downhill" any time soon nor has it ever gone "downhill".

Dragonball, while it is a pretty good manga series, isn't the sole reason Shonen Jump is successful. There are plenty of other manga series out there that are as good or better than Dragonball. In fact, current manga series in Shonen Jump contain tons of elements from Dragonball, which basically set the standard for the "Shonen" genre. So if lack of Dragonball means to you that Shonen Jump is going downhill there will always be that Dragonball flare that will be reminiscent of Dragonball.

yes, I agree with you.
And I heard that Jump will have two weeks breaks in the end of this year, so no naruto manga, one piece manga, bleach manga this week! I want naruto 568,one piece 561,bleach 478 now.

The American Version of Shonen Jump is going through changes.... Starting next year they will have an online only version that's weekly that will release 2 weeks after the ones the one in Japan. If that does well they will do same day release which I think will be awesome. In Japan, you can already read previews of tankobon online in addition to purchasing an online version. With the way things are going towards digital, it's not surprising that here in the US that ShonenJump is moving that direction. It makes more financial sense.

And if the only reason you like manga is for the echi there are still plenty out there and some still do a lot of fan service within the new guidelines. I almost got a ShonenJump subscription but I since I only like 3 of the series carried in the American version it doesn't make sense.

Shonen Jump is doing quite well in Japan. In the US the manga industry simply isn't doing well. Viz has had to lay off tons of people and narrow their focus a bit. Viz has been making a push with One Piece hoping it will find some of the popularity it enjoys in Japan. In Japan One Piece by itself enjoys sales greater than Naruto, Toriko, Gintama, Bakuman, Bleach, Sket Dance,Hunter x Hunter, Nura:Rise of the Yokai Clan and Beelzebub combined. All of those titles run in Weekly jump in Japan. Out of those titles I mentioned only One Piece, Naruto and Bleach are running in the US version.

Very much so to this.

Anime/Manga is going through very dire straits in the US. Companies are closing their doors and phasing out, and not too many people have recovered since the crash of '08. The Japanese companies charge obscene amounts for distribution and rights, and quite frankly, the demand is not what it used to be.

At least Shounen Jump and Viz are around. When Tokyopop went, that was the end of an era for me.

why you have this thought. as we all know, one piece manga and naruto manga and bleach manga are still popular, and those are belong to shonnen jump. but we can not deny, there are more mangawa and publishe build up, and the competition is more and more fierence. they should take more energy to the manga.
