The magazine has never been completely gold. Even in the days of Dragon Ball you could say that was the only series worth reading.
Right now it has several hits, One Piece, Assassination Classroom, Kuroko no Basket, Naruto, Toriko, Bleach, Beelzebub, and Hunter X Hunter.
By the way, storywise and in terms of quality, Dragon Ball sucks ass. But I still love it.. haha

The American magazine like they said is going from print to online now. It's kind of a shame really, at least for me. For the past few years that I've had my subscription I always enjoyed the day it would show up in the mail and I'd spend a few hours reading it. I'm actually in college now and away from home, so going back once a month, I would be able to enjoy a fresh magazine at home. As far as is it going downhill, in America it seems like anime and manga just aren't as popular unless it is the Big 3. It'd probably do better if they advertised the rest of the titles that are in print like in Japan. I'd really like to read Gintama, Sket Dance, and Beelzebub.

You can read Gintama, but only up to volume 23 since Viz cancelled it in the US.

I would say that Shonen Jump is only getting more popular since it started simultaneous digital distribution. If you're talking about the quality of the manga coming out, then i would still disagree. One Piece is still solid, Bleach is finally getting better after it's downward spiral, they're now rereleasing Dragon Ball Z in full color, and the newer series; Cross Trigger, Nisekoi, and especially One Punch Man are pretty good while covering a decent range of genres for the teenage audience. The only series i can think of that's not doing good right now is Naruto.

Anything made today looks like crap if you view it through the rose-colored glasses of nostalgia. That may be all that is going on.
