My mum told me that My grandfather has two wives and has had 20 children and I was really surprised because I couldn't imagine what it would be like to grow up in such an environment.
So I was wondering what people think on the subject of polygamy

What do you think about having more than one partner?
Do you think such relationships can work?
Would you consider it?
What do you think it would be like having 2 or more wives/husbands?
Also what are the positive/negative points in such relationships?

As for me, I am more of a one person kind of girl and I think monogamous relationships work best for me.

I looked for a similar topic and I can't find one.

its their choice and if they can make it work then it should be fine.

I'm against it, sharing your partner doesn't leave you with a good feeling xD.. but then again, in some religions, it's already normal for them as long as they have money...

Although it's people's business whether they want to be polygamists or not, I do not support it. It has an adverse effect on the relationships that takes place within a household. No person can serve to masters at once. Who would you give more importance among your spouses? Because people are the way they are, such ties can breed jealousy, incompetence, and inferiority complexes to name a few. What does that do to the children? They will quite have a stunted understanding of a familiar relationship. I've also seen disturbing news among polygamist environments. There was this report in a remote place in Colorodo where polygamy is taken to levels that include incest, molestation, and child abuse (which is not limited to the usual definitions but to arranged marriages between a 14 yr old with a 40 yr old). If you're born a male, you're pretty much ousted from the society because competition among males for females is absurdly rigged. That place forbids internet, radio, and television so they're pretty much disconnected to the outside world.

EDIT: With respect to some cultures and religions such as Islam, I believe they have limits (such as 4 for Islam) but it's still a little immoral to me. A Muslim man can legally and completely divorce a wife by saying "I divorce you" 4 times to that wife.

not my thing but i don't have a problem with it really unless it's apart of those psycho brainwashing cults from mid-western USA

EDIT: females tend to be caught up on this like it's a male only thing. what about multiple husbands? in some wiccan circles this is accepted and practiced today

also before this turns into another islam bashing thread. it's also widely accepted and practised today by fundamentalist christians as well.

I think I could handle me and another guy with a girl. I can see it beign fun

I dont really think it matter and who cares who you marry. I say legalize it. The only problems it would cause for the government is tax stuff might be screwed up for awhile and other official bureaucratic crap

yeah and I agree with you the government always wants a piece of our actions -_-
nah its not new actually its been here since ancient times

Indeed. It's no longer polygamy but a dominance over people's lives like they're some sort of resources. And yeah I have no qualms about groups who have practices like that. For one thing it's more acceptable than the said cults.
