I love pandas they shouldn't go extinct but there are lot's of other animals going to extinct as well that we should care about and the only way for us to preserve life on earth is to take care of our environment and from there let things correct themselves.

It's not what they've done... But what they're planning to do.

We are currently undergoing what is called the Holocene Extinction Event, the first mass extinction to be caused primarily by human activity. So many species have already gone extinct, and many more are fated to as industrialization, pollution, overpopulation and global warming irrevocably alter the ecosystem. Humans are very adaptable, and will likely survive in some form, but it will be in a very different world than the one in which we first came to prominence.

Hmm, I wouldn't call it being jaded....realistic, maybe?

Sure, pandas are what most would call cute, but is that really a legitimate reason to spend millions of dollars to save them? There was another species in China, the Yangtze river dolphin. It's now extinct. It had sort of the same problem the pandas have now. Their habitat was corrupted and polluted by construction. If I remember correctly, people weren't really willing to donate to that cause. No one even talks about its extinction anymore.
Plus, many endangered species that are beneficial to an ecosystem die out, but you don't see people get upset about that. It's only the cute and cuddly ones that grab all of the attention.

Eh, I feel like I'm just ranting now. The point is, there should be actual reasons for saving a species.

couldn't agree more, saving something because its cute isnt valid. besides, what will its quality of life be like once it returns to safe numbers? because we're the reason its going extinct and do you really think we'd sacrifice what it takes for them to live comfortably?

I'm conflicted. On one hand, I see the point that if we allow other species to die out, what makes the panda so special. On the other hand, I feel that, yeah even though the panda is cute, if we can do something we should. On the other hand, it's true that pandas and other near-extinct animals don't really produce anything to make it economically viable to save them, but on the other hand, what does that say about us as the human race that we can throw away life even when it serves no purpose. So on the other hand, oh wait....I ran out of hands. I'll be back later when I've gone out and 'acquired' a few more.....

...maybe from some people who really serve no viable purpose to society....like politicians, or crippled people, or whatever.
