The increasing Advertisement on CR.
Posted 2/28/11
I'm not to bag on Crunchyroll, or it's increase in popularity since 08.
But I have come to realize the desperation and greedy ideas swinging through the mind of Vu N.
I know about the recent partnerships with various prestigious names ,and I just want to know is Crunchyroll not for the modern day individual just to share his/her opinion on various anime if not dramas, I guess with fame comes greed.

the advertisements are needed. Hosting a website with this much content costs a lot of money. So advertisements are needed to run it. The partner companies will only pay so much to the website. Thus, advertisements are needed. It works by clicking on them. Every time a person clicks on it crunchyroll will make money. Besides the money also goes to people who are paid to maintain this site as well. So i wouldn't call it greed, i would call it paying for whats do. Besides, people need to make money for this site as a profit since it needs so much man power to maintain and run this.

I haven't been a member on here for too long, but honestly, paying for a membership isn't that much. It's actually quite a good deal as far as I'm concerned. I used to live in Japan, and miss the fun television greatly, so roughly 7 dollars a month isn't going to hinder me... Especially with how quick they post such high quality episodes up after it aired in Japan. this is of course assuming you're talking about ads in videos.

People have to make a living, and also network to expand the company's horizons..
I say give them a chance. :)

Once again, that 7 dollars a month truly isn't a lot... That's like a burrito and a drink from Chipotle.. XD

I won't go on and blabber on some ''if you don't want adds, then subscribe!'' bullshit...

The industry's view on fansubbing is dire enough, CR needs every bit of money it can use to keep it's head above the water. You can rage about the proliferation of adds on the internet as a whole, but to particularly aim your wrath towards CR is, IMO, not the best way to address the problem.

That being said, it pains everyone that were users of CR in its time of abundance to see how scarce is the material nowadays, but at least CR is a legal haven for those who want to indulge in their anime craving overseas..

I sometimes wonder how CR manages to pay for this site. If you say there are about what... 5,000 active premium users or so? That's only $25,000 per month. The free users seeing advertisements is probably like $0.01 per ad they see. Of course it adds up over the course of a month but still...

- Server Costs
- Contracts with TOP Anime Creators
- Paying TOP Anime Creators

etc. I know nothing about the Anime business so I can't say for sure, but those increase in ads are probably needed to keep free users able to watch all of these videos for free. If you really don't want to see them buy the membership. If you watch 1 episode per day that is $0.24~ per episode. Or you could go and buy a new DVD collection at the store every two weeks for about $60 a month. Just imagine if you watched 2 episodes per day that makes it $0.12 per episode, 3 episodes per day makes $0.06, etc. Can you really not spare $0.24 to help this site stay up and support the Anime Industry?
