When do you consider someone to be an adult?

Do you think that it's when they reach the legal age or when they mature enough mentally or physically?

Personally I think that it's when you fully accept the responsibilities of an adult and are mature enough for the most part to complete those responsibilities. Succsessfully caring for a child or children that are your own is also a good sign to me of adulthood.

These are just my opinions, what do the rest of you think?

I don't think age is a good enough indicator of adulthood. I think that maturity, responsibility, and independence might be good indicators.

Then again, some people would never be considered adults if there was a standard other than age alone.

I wish i could say i was a adult at 18 ,but i wasn't, but i could never realize that without living into my thirties to judge. so does turning a age make you an adult ...well no living the life experiences after making the choice to put childish things beside you makes you an adult.but im still a big kid but a responsible big kid who takes care of mines. yaaa meaan.

They live on their own.
Make their own money (by means of a respectable job).
Can pace their lives in a way that suits them.
Has well being.
Is independent.

Idunno, getting a job? Living out on your own?

Of course my mental image of an adult is someone that can depend on other people, but isn't a liability to the least extent. A person who is a productive member of society, as well as a person that handles issues like an adult. An overall respectable person of their community as well as an advisor and example to the next generation.

Of course no one is perfect, so I think its a matter of subjectivity. In my opinion I measure people by the forementioned.

I don't think I will be considered an adult to myself until I make a baby lol and have to raise a child to grow up to be a respectable person. I'm probably kind of childish right now and will always be!!!!!!

I wouldn't say maturity is an indicator. You can be immature and still take care of your responsibilities.
I would say you are an adult when you get a taste of the outside world and understand what needs to be done, and then do it.
