Ah yes the harem anime, its a long standing fascination with most male anime fans. I mean whats not to like, your living in a house, unsupervised, with a bunch of girls that seem to have everything a guy could dream of. Good looks, cooking abilities, smart, funny and kind. But that usually fits in with one girl. While the others can be, well, a bit, what is the word, chaotic to say the least.

Most of the time, the guy sends most of his time getting his ass handed to him if there is( and we all know that there is) a misunderstanding, i.e. first episode of Girls Bravo, Yukinari(the lead) get a nice introduction to one of the females foot to the face, because she walked in on him while he was in the bathroom of his own house. Then there is Keitaro from Love Hina, the poor guys live in a house full of nutcases. Every few seconds he is getting the shit beat out of him for the smallest of things. Tell me how does a man, who is getting dressed in his own room deserve to get an upper cut? And sometimes having two girls fighting over you can be a little hazardous to your health, just ask Tenchi, between Princess Ayeka and Ryoko fighting with there super abilities. Its a surprise that he is still alive, what with him always getting in the way of the crossfire.

Which brings to my topic title question: Would you really want to be a lead in a harem Anime?

What you mostly see in those harem series seems like too much of a bother really

honestly probably not. The poor guys in these things seem to spend most of their time ducking for cover and repairing the damage to their house.

Harem shows always strike me as a "be careful what you wish for" warning.

and the guy can never make a choice. Even if there is one girl in particular that he clearly likes over the rest, if he was to choose that girl the rest would kill them both so he is stuck in neutral for the rest of his life.

Except in Tenchi GXP. Probably the only Harem I've seen that ends with a happy ending......

That is an interesting statement. I've never thought to think about something like. But I can see what you mean. The whole idea sounds good on paper, but once you actually live through it, its like living your own personal hell, because let's face it, women can be really overwhelming to deal with. And I am one.

It depends. If it were real girls, fuck no. Dealing with one is hard enough at times. A harem would just plain suck ass most of the time.

Anime? Sure why not. Common sense = happy ending. Most of the time.

Yes, but when do characters in anime actually use common sense? Its almost like its a foreign concept for them.

If I am the lead, I'm pretty sure I'll retain my common sense. Or at least my intelligence.

Cause if I don't it's not really me any more, as much as another random idiot protagonist.

If I get my fair shares of lolis, tsunderes, yanderes, yangies, kuuderes, childhood friends, abnormalities (catgirls, etc.) then fuck yea. Why wouldn't I?

The childhood friend would and should be the smart choice.

It is understandable why most males would have a hard time choosing though. Its like going into a ice cream shop with over two hundred choices to choose from.
